We hold ourselves to these high standards as we are accountable to the people of Montana. * We value and respect each other. * We create collaborative work environments. * We build and maintain strong relationships. * We practice accountability. * We celebrate our successes and take pride in our work. *Work Unit Overview: * TheForestry Divisionof theDepartment of Natural Resources and Conservation(DNRC) ensures the sustainability of Montana forests, rural lands, and communities through cooperative wildland fire protection and sound forest management practices; protects the state's natural resources from wildfire, insect pests, and disease; sustains or improves the natural resources of private forestland for the good of all Montanans; promotes and supports conservation practices on all lands in Montana; enforces the State's forest practices laws in a manner that is both fair and consistent to all parties and that complies with the intent of the legislation; and encourages the maintenance, planting, and management of trees and shrubs in Montana communities. The Division consists of the Fire Protection Bureau, the Forestry Assistance Bureau, the Forestry Division Business Office, and six area offices located throughout the state. The DNRC Fire Protection mission requires a robust approach to community preparedness and fire prevention enabling wildland fire protection activities across the state of Montana and actualizing a commitment to achieving a well-rounded fire protection program that, to the extent we can while redeeming our statutory mandates, embraces the three tenets of the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy: effective wildfire response, fire adapted communities, and resilient landscapes. Our Fire Protection Program incorporates, as critical components, community preparedness, homeowner risk reduction, and fire prevention, as well as prescribed fire and hazardous fuels reduction. We deliberately engage Montana’s citizens to prepare themselves, their property and their communities for wildfire. It is through the Community Preparedness and Wildfire Prevention Program that the Department’s aspirations in these areas become reality. The Central Land Office, one of six DNRC land offices in the State, encompasses all or part of fourteen counties across central Montana: Lewis and Clark, Meager, Broadwater, Jefferson, Madison, Beaverhead, Park, Gallatin, Cascade, Teton, Pondera, Glacier, Toole, and Liberty. Within those counties, CLO manages approximately 1.2 million acres of State trust lands. The CLO has headquarters in Helena, and includes four Units located in Conrad, Helena, Bozeman and Dillon. Through both direct protection and the County Cooperative Fire Management Program, the CLO provides fire protection across all 14 counties. Within that, the CLO provides initial and extended attack fire management on approximately 1.6 million acres of direct fire protection, including areas of complex and high value Wildland Urban Interface (WUI). The Central Land Office includes the larger municipalities of Helena, Great Falls, Bozeman, Belgrade, Big Sky, Three Forks, Livingston, Ennis, and Dillon. The CLO overlaps with the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, Custer-Gallatin National Forest, and parts of the Lolo and Flathead National Forests. The Central Land Office provides fire protection, thru offset agreements, with the Western Montana District of the Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation and the US Forest Service. *Position Overview:* This position primarily focuses on leading the development and implementation, with Unit personnel, of a land office-wide comprehensive program for community preparedness, fire prevention, fire information, public outreach, and forestry assistance supporting both the current operational needs and the strategic initiatives of the Fire Protection Program and the Forestry Division within the Central Land Office operating area. The incumbent serves both as an internal resource to DNRC personnel and to key DNRC partners in local, state, tribal, and federal government. The incumbent must be able to attain and maintain National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) qualification/certification as a Public Information Officer 3 (PIO3). *Knowledge, skills, and abilities:* * Program Management * Professional and Technical writing * Written and verbal communication * Public Education and Outreach * - Budget Monitoring *SPECIAL INFORMATION:* Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
