    We are looking for highly skilled, self-motivated, exceptional Sr Hardware Reliability Engineer to help us scale our organization and our infrastructure in support of a rapidly growing business. This position will be part of the Hardware Capacity Engineering team, focused on providing the best and innovative hardware solutions for LinkedIn and deploying them at scale.

     

    The individual hired for this role should have experience with hardware monitoring tools, Python/Bash scripting, performance tuning, and qualifying new hardware.

The work location of this role is on-site, meaning it will be performed in the specified office on a full-time basis due to the business needs of the team.

     

    This role will be based out of our Ashburn, VA, Richardson, TX or Hillsboro, OR.

    Responsibilities:

    Serve as the main point of contact and escalation point for the datacenter team on behalf of the Hardware Capacity Engineering team

     

    Monitor and support server builds on the initial deployment

     

    Collect data on any systemic issues with hardware SKUs and participate in troubleshooting, root cause analysis and resolution

     

    Provide training for DC personnel performing break/fix work for servers

     

    Contribute to improve hardware monitoring and diagnostics tools, including post-break/fix verification

     

    Make recommendations on hardware platforms based on historical reliability and supportability data collected on-site

    Basic Qualifications:

    BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or related practical experience

     

    2+ years of experience in a Linux production environment performing system administration and hardware troubleshooting

     

    2+ years experience with a Linux configuration management system

     

    2+ years of experience scripting with Python, Ruby, Bash, Perl, or similar

     

    2+ years of experience benchmarking with common tools such as sysbench, bonnie++, ssdbench, iozone or similar

    Preferred Qualifications:

    5+ years of relevant work experience

     

    Experience writing, implementing, and maintaining Puppet policies

     

    Experience with RAID concepts, x86 server architecture, TCP/IP networking, and related technologies

     

    Demonstrated experience putting together summary reports and visual presentations of the results of benchmarks and performance tests.

     

    Demonstrated understanding of Linux filesystems, CPU and memory performance tuning, Java optimization, or similar

     

    Experience with Linux CGroups, containers, kernel tuning and related technologies

     

    Experience using specialized benchmarking tools such as SpecJVM, PARSEC, Phoronix Test Suite

     

    Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including experience with Excel

    Suggested Skills:

    - Linux system administration

     

    - Hardware troubleshooting

     

    - Shell scripting

     

    - Performance tuning

     

    - Good communication skills

    The pay range for this role is [121000 to 198000]. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
