The Honors program at CSU encompasses approximately 2,000 students from all eight colleges who participate in Honors courses and activities each semester. Honors students benefit from small, discussion-based seminars taught by some of the University’s finest faculty members, personalized academic advising, priority enrollment, opportunities for leadership, research and community service, and special scholarships. Currently Honors has five full-time staff, several faculty serving administrative roles, several graduate student interns, as well as undergraduate student assistants.
Position Summary
The Honors Advisor is a full-time, twelve-month, Administrative Professional position dedicated to serving students in Honors. The Honors Advisor plays a supportive role in strengthening efforts to provide quality advising and promote student success. This position supports an innovative and holistic approach to providing students with the curricular and co-curricular assistance, guidance, and resources necessary to be successful. The primary functions of the Honors Advisor are to foster successful transition to the university and for students in their initial semester, promote exploration of majors to ensure students’ choice of appropriate major, and use of action plans to promote timely persistence and graduation. In addition to these advisory roles, the position will carve out dedicated time to interact with students in co-curricular capacities.
This position is in-person at CSU’s Fort Collins campus.

+ Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
+ Experience advising, counseling, and/or providing academic support for students.
+ Experience with working with students in one-on-one settings and group settings.
+ Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects effectively and efficiently.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
+ Excellent organizational and communication skills (written, verbal, interpersonal, and public speaking).
+ Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations, demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate with diverse populations in a positive manner.
Preferred Job Qualifications

+ 2 years of experience advising, counseling, and/or providing academic support for students.
+ Honors education experience through an earned degree program, work experience in an honors college or program, or in a higher education program that supports student success.
+ Master’s degree from an accredited university.
+ Experience working in interdisciplinary contexts.
+ Demonstrated ability in designing, implementing, and collaborating on programs.
+ Demonstrated experience developing intervention strategies for supporting the academic success of students.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Flexibility, patience and creativity.
+ Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
+ Experience with Oracle, Banner, and Slate software systems.
+ Ability to work a flexible schedule while on the FC campus

Duty/Responsibility
+ Communicate with incoming and transfer (or current CSU students who want to participate in Honors after their first semester) in person, in writing and/or remotely to educate about the program goals, and advise on admission, proper course selection, and registration of classes;
+ Treat each student as an individual, understanding that each student’s path to degree attainment may be different;
+ Collaborate with other Honors advisors for summer orientation programs including points of contact for summer Ram Orientation;
+ Follow-up and review student schedules prior to the start of the semester to ensure proper course selection;
+ Process documents related to overrides, exceptions, appeals, graduation, study abroad, international students, athletics, and other advising-related matters;
+ Advise current students and prospective students to understand program curriculum and how it correlates with students’ pursued major(s) and/or minor(s).
+ Be knowledgeable of all programs/colleges across the university regarding requirements, resources, and/or points of contact helpful for undergraduate student success;
+ Provide support and comprehensive advising for students going through transitions, degree selection, and progress toward graduation.
+ Proactively communicate with all students regarding important university deadlines such as Add/Drop, Repeat/Delete, course withdrawal, and university withdrawal;
+ Maintain detailed knowledge of and make appropriate referrals to campus resources and opportunities in advising and intervention strategies as needed;
+ Communicate regularly with Registrar’s Office, Degree Office, and program faculty and staff to provide additional support to students;
+ Maintain accurate and comprehensive detailed appointment notes;
+ Stay current on advising tools within AriesWeb, Navigate, as well as proper interpretation of Degree Progress Audits;
+ Develop, implement, maintain program advising assessments to collect relevant and accurate data to continuously improve program’s service to students;
+ Work with FERPA Guidelines to uphold student’s privacy;
+ Facilitate faculty to student interactions as necessary;

+ Provide attention to students struggling to adjust to demands of Honors program;
+ Actively participate in Scholarship Appeals committee and assist students on academic probation to improve GPA to overcome academic difficulties;
+ Develop and implement community-building activities for students;
+ Recruit transfer and continuing students by collaborating with Admissions and university programs and departments, including setting up partnerships with campus programs that work with marginalized student populations;
+ Coordinate and review applications for current and/or transfer students;
+ Research and evaluate opportunities for new touch points or pipelines that result in future enrollments;
+ Meet with and/or provide presentations and guidance to prospective students and families;
+ Promote and support various Honors student organizations such as HSA (Honors Student Association);
+ Collaborate with university and program constituents on existing recruiting, retention and outreach programs and initiatives;
+ Develop and implement benchmarks for the student to successfully master program concepts, knowledge, and skills in an effort to fulfill educational enrichment and goals;
+ Contact students regularly to discuss goal setting and enhancing time management, study skills, self-advocacy, academic success strategies, available campus support resources, and broader topics holistically impacting the student (e.g., financial concerns, caregiving responsibilities, and learning what questions to ask to allow the student to successfully learn to navigate a university system)
+ Serve as representative for program on university committees as needed.

+ Explore opportunities to create process improvements while maintaining excellent customer service, integrity of data and work standards for the academic advising team.
+ Present at conferences and/or workshops as appropriate.
