Job Title Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Program ESL Instructor - (part time)
Job Description
The Adult Education and Literacy ( AEL ) Program – ESL Instructor will focus on instruction for English language learners to develop the skills necessary for employment, training, post-secondary education, or to earn a high school equivalency diploma. Instructors will provide group and individualized instruction during day and/or evening hours.
Pay rate is $18.00 to $20.50 per hour, depending on level of education and experience. This position is less than 20 hours per week and is not eligible for SCC benefits. Currently hiring for classrooms in Ft. Madison, Keokuk, Mt. Pleasant and West Burlington.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
+ Commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy.
+ Comply with relevant program, institutional, state and federal policies, guidelines, and procedures.
+ Prepare lesson plans that provide all students an opportunity to learn and provide instruction as assigned.
+ Monitor student progress toward acquiring English language skills in reading, writing, and speaking; improving academic, life and work skills; and/or earning a high school equivalency diploma.
+ Conduct student intake, assess student learning and accurately document program services.
+ Actively participate in team meetings.
+ Other duties as assigned.
The AEL Instructor will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.
Required Qualifications
Education
o Bachelor’s degree required.
o Current Iowa Department of Education standard teaching license preferred.
o Experience teaching Adult Education and Literacy, including ESL or high school equivalency
diploma preparation preferred.
+ Ability to use technology and computer software applications to perform work duties
+ Demonstrated understanding, ability, and appreciation for working with people from diverse backgrounds.
+ Strong human relations and interpersonal oral and written communication skills to interact positively with diverse personalities and populations.
+ Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and perform with a high level of
personal and professional integrity.
+ Self-motivated, creative and capable of being flexible in the delivery of program services.
