Job Description:
The Andrew Hanson Lab in the Department of Horticultural Sciences at University of Florida-IFAS in Gainesville is currently seeking a highly motivated individual with some background in the physical sciences for a paid, part-time position. This candidate will support lab functions in a supplementary role.
A brief description of the position and duties are as follows:
+ Assist with lab management: maintain, clean, or sterilize lab equipment and work areas.
+ Prepare media and other basic materials handling, including preparing pipette tip boxes.
+ Basic record keeping associated with lab work
+ Other duties as assigned
Typical work schedule:2 weekly 4-hour shifts
The Andrew Hanson Lab(https://www.adhansonlab.org) is a research lab in the Department of Horticultural Sciences at University of Florida-IFAS in Gainesville. We work on plant and microbe metabolic biochemistry and engineering using synthetic biology and other tools. We focus on (1) primary metabolism (particularly relating to thiamin and other B vitamins), and (2) damage to metabolites and proteins and its repair or pre-emption.
The Horticultural Sciences Department(http://hos.ufl.edu) is a unit within IFAS at the University of Florida and has diverse teaching, research, and extension education programs with 34 faculty in Gainesville and 26 faculty at various Research and Education Centers throughout the state. The Horticultural Sciences Department is currently ranked top 9 in the center for world university rankings.
Expected Salary:
$13 per hour
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma
Preferred:
Currently enrolled at the University of Florida, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology, agriculture, or related sciences.
The ideal candidate will have prior laboratory experience.
