    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    Under general supervision of the Vice President of Human Resources, the Labor Relations Analyst performs complex and specialized work to facilitate and coordinate labor relations activities for the College. The incumbent in this position represents the Office of Human Resources and is regarded as a credible source of information for the department. The Labor Relations Analyst provides support on Collective Bargaining matters and prepares confidential reports involving labor matters.

     

    The Labor Relations Analyst performs a variety of duties of a complex and confidential nature, may attend various confidential meetings, provides correspondence and responds to requests from the college employees. Serves as liaison to external partners, including but not limited to labor unions and Suffolk County’s Labor Relations Office.

     

    As a result, the incumbent is required to have an ongoing knowledge of policies and procedures and relevant departmental information in order to deliver accurate and timely information and make appropriate decisions. The Labor Relations Analyst is responsible for providing comprehensive support with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This position requires the ability to prioritize, anticipate needs, think critically and be solution – oriented in a dynamic environment.

    Job Responsibilities:

    + Perform research and gather data for confidential personnel and labor matters including but not limited to disciplinary charges, labor negotiations, grievances and arbitration.

    + Manage the grievance process timeline and coordination with stakeholders to fact find information for response.

    + Track and maintain disciplinary actions and records. Coordinate disciplinary charge meetings, send correspondence to employees and stakeholders. Track activity on counseling memos.

    + Attend meetings with the Vice President of Human Resources. Prepare clear and comprehensive reports and gather data to support the VP in collective bargaining and personnel matters.

    + Coordinate all tasks undertaken by the office, including prioritization of data and report requests, and assignment of tasks to staff.

    + Communicate extensively with management, faculty, staff, and the general public. Handle confidential information regarding management, faculty, staff, and/or controversial, labor and/or legal matters.

    + Gather and prepare metrics and data to assist the VP in decision making process. Provide monthly reports, working with the Director of Payroll to ensure data integrity of personnel data and auditing for accuracy.

    + Assists the Vice President of Human Resources in investigation and resolution of grievances and gathers data upon request to support administrative charges and arbitration.

    + Coordinates and implements the terms of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) that involve employee terms and conditions of employment. (Term, Continuing Appointment and Promotion process).

    + Demonstrate confidentiality, credibility, and trust.

    + Communicate effectively and maintain cooperative relationships with others.

    + Compose correspondence independently and prepare reports. Gather data from a variety of sources, interprets, applies and explains policies and procedures.

    + Prioritize multiple inquiries and requests while troubleshooting and diminishing scheduling conflicts; make judgements and recommendations to ensure smooth day-to-day engagements.

    + Maintain complex and confidential records. Analyze situations accurately and take effective action. Research and assemble a variety of data for reports.

    + Perform other related duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required:

    Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree, and one (1) year of municipal labor relations experience.

    Preferred:

    A Bachelor’s degree with four (4) years of full-time experience within a human resources/labor relations environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including spreadsheets, databases and presentation/visual software. Excellent writing skills, organizational skills, and oral communication skills.

    HIRING SALARY:

    Salary range $49,642.20 - $61,308.90
