Responsibilities

Under the supervision of a social worker who meets state required standards, provides psychotherapy, counseling, and other services in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The social worker may also coordinate patient discharge planning, complies with required standards for medical/legal responsibilities, and serves as a resource to other allied and administrative staff within the section of Social Work and the Department of Nursing.

Hiring two .9 FTE and one 1.0 FTE for the Emergency Department/Midwest ATC and now the EmPATH unit. The EmPATH unit is a psychiatric emergency department observation unit where behavioral health patients will be evaluated, treated for their behavioral health crisis, and discharged to the appropriate level of care.

Qualifications

An MSW degree is required from an accredited Masters of Social Work Program. Must have an advanced knowledge of categories in mental illness, personality development, knowledge of the types of psychiatric treatment, and skills in conducting individual, group, and family therapy. Must have knowledge in adjustment to medical diagnosis and chronic disease. Strong human relation skills are needed to interact with patients, patient’s family members, consultants, residents, hospital personnel, community agencies, and other resources. Must also have psychosocial diagnostic skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form.

**License:** Licensure at the Licensed Graduate Social Work (LGSW) or Licensed Independent Social Work (LISW) level from the Minnesota Board of Social Work (MNBOSW) is required. LGSW/LISW personnel, following 4000 hours of clinically supervised practice are eligible to apply for licensure at the LICSW level, and must do so by 8000 hours. A condition of employment at the LGSW level shall be the ability to practice clinically through a MNBOSW approved Clinical Supervision Plan leading to LICSW attainment.

Schedule Details

The Social Workers in the Emergency Department/ATC/EmPATH units cover all shifts- days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Working a combination of 12 hour and 8 hours shifts. The social workers are expected to be flexible and willing to cover shifts in all areas.
