    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Conducts innovative scientific investigation by developing theories and devising scientific methods and procedures to apply scientific principles, theories and research in projects related to the mission of UTMB. Committed to the discovery of new innovative biomedical and health services knowledge leading to increasingly effective and accessible health care. Has full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating overall project assignments.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    A senior research scientist position is available in the newly founded UTMB-NIPOKA Center at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston to develop and test a microscopic imaging based renal disease research and diagnostic platform.

     

    The ideal candidate is expected to join a dynamic team including physicians and scientists that are enthusiastic on establishing innovative diagnostic tools for patients with kidney disease.

     

    + Work directly with the Center Director, managing the microscopic imaging platform.

    + Work closely with team members from different disciplines, including tissue processing and immunostaining specialists, scientists, physicians and business partners to execute the planned tasks.

    + Operate and maintain a state of art super-resolution microscope daily.

    + Obtain and analyze the fluorescence based images from processed tissues.

    + Participate in the relevant clinical and experimental research projects.

    _MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:_

    + _Ph. D, M.D, D.O., or D.V.M in related field and six years of related experience with Peer Review Publications._

    + _Ph.D. training in Basic Science, Translational Science, or a related field._

    + _Familiar with fluorescence based microscopes and fluorescence based protein/nucleic acid labeling techniques._

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Five or more years of experience operating fluorescence based microscopes from any major brands, eg Nikon, Leica, Zeiss etc.

    + Hands-on experience with Nikon N-SIM.

    + Hands-on experience with immunohistochemistry staining.

    SALARY:

    Commensurate with experience.
