Lecturer or Assistant Professor - Nursing
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college offering associate and bachelor’s degree programs in downtown Brooklyn, invites applications for **one** full-time lecturer or assistant professor position in the Nursing Department, to begin in the Fall 2025 semester. The lecturer position leads to a certificate of continuous employment (CCE). The assistant professor position is a tenure track appointment.
The Nursing Department currently offers an AAS degree in Nursing and a BS in Nursing completion program. Serving over 400 students, there are 10 full-time faculty members and many strong adjunct clinical faculty, in addition to dedicated staff supporting the office, laboratories and clinical placements. In filling this position, the department seeks a faculty member with the professional background and clinical skills needed to play a significant role in the growth the Nursing program.
Reporting to the chairperson of the Department of Nursing, faculty member responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lecturer
The faculty member is expected to teach courses in the associate and baccalaureate degree programs and be committed to excellence in teaching, in addition to service to the Nursing Department, the School of Professional Studies, the College and the University. Service expectations include advisement, curricular updates, recruitment and other outreach, assessment and contributions to accreditation requirements.
Assistant Professor
In addition to the responsibilities of a lecturer, tenure-track faculty are responsible for scholarly activities leading to peer reviewed publications and presentations.
Faculty members are expected to develop and maintain relationships with professional nursing organizations and attend regional and national professional and educational conferences. Ongoing professional development to meet accreditation standards and in response to technological advances in instruction is also required. In addition to classroom time, the position entails office hours for student support and advisement and support to grow the program. Sustained professional growth is expected.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Lecturer
Bachelor's degree in Nursing or other healthcare-related field and active NYS nursing license. Also required is the ability to teach successfully and to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Assistant Professor
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are an active NYS nursing license, the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Master’s degree or higher in Nursing or a closely related healthcare field.
+ A minimum of 4 years of full-time professional practice in clinical nursing.
+ Previous teaching experience, strong skills in educational methodology, and an ability to teach core curriculum courses via in-person, online and hybrid modalities is highly desirable.
+ Ability to teach simulation courses and simulation certification is preferred.
+ Proficiency with standard MS Office Suite applications.
+ Vaccinations for healthcare providers as recommended by the CDC.
+ Excellent communication skills.
+ Experience in a diverse, multicultural setting preferred.
COMPENSATION
Lecturer
$69,983 - $88,998
Assistant Professor
$75,465 - $93,134
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09%, with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/01/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/01/2026, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
