Overview:
The Executive Associate Program is designed for 2nd year MBA students who seek to accelerate their career within M&T Bank. Program hires will undergo an immersive leadership experience designed to develop leadership competencies and strategic capabilities. Throughout the first year, the incoming cohort will be introduced to Program alumni, bank wide leadership, and collaborate with peers to drive change to support the vision and goals of the Bank.
The Office of Innovation team believes that by understanding the external market and innovation trends, M&T can be a proactive participant in defining the future of banking in meaningful ways for customers and employees. The team identifies trends, recognizes emerging growths, and develops partnerships to help transform the Bank for the future. In partnership with a network of influencers and FinTech innovators the team works to identify, accelerate, and realize opportunities for customers and employees.
The Office of Innovation combines strategy, thought leadership and execution to shape M&T Bank’s evolution. The team has capabilities across strategy, venture capital investment, fintech, partnership development, and research. Working in partnership with M&T Bank’s business lines, as well as the broader financial services and technology ecosystems, the Office of Innovation team identifies and analyzes trends, emerging challenges, and expansion opportunities in the startup ecosystem. The team focuses on forward-thinking opportunities whether they concern clients, vendors, Fintechs or employees.
This Executive Associate (EA) would join the Office of Innovation in a Innovation Analyst capacity. As an EA, you will directly support our leadership and the team as they advise senior leaders through market research, critical analysis, thought leadership, and building/maintaining our internal knowledge infrastructure. Other responsibility may include:
Primary Responsibilities:
+ Develop and produce high complexity departmental reports and spreadsheets to include but not limited to project or product strategy analysis, historical reporting, financial modeling, and financial analysis of venture investments
+ Identify trends, emerging issues and engage relevant stakeholders both inside and outside the bank to develop support project plans, organize virtual and physical events, synthesize multiple points of view and communicate findings utilizing such tools as white papers, reports and other relevant formats.
+ Conducting industry and company research, perform deep-dive qualitative and quantitative analyses into a wide variety of industries, technologies, and companies, and research and draft bank perspectives on all aspects of venture capital and strategic investing
+ Outside of the box problem solving, analyzes and synthesizing information, and determining feasible solutions to then articulate the recommendations to the team and senior leadership
+ Execute and improve the operational management of the venture investment processes to include but not limited to investment playbooks, engagement routines with venture partners and execution of investment strategy
+ Developing and maintaining relationships with top venture firms, accelerators, and startup companies
+ Work across the Office of Innovation for departmental support areas, coordinating with business partners, vendors and technology to address issues for the unit (dept).
+ Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
+ Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
+ Complete other related duties as assigned
Scope of Responsibilities:
Perform project/management related assignments in field of expertise within the Executive Associate Program.

Education and Experience Required:
+ Completed MBA from an accredited business school.
+ Minimum two years professional, full time work experience.
+ Demonstrated leadership potential, as evidenced through previous work experience, extracurricular activities, or community involvement
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and critically analyze complex business challenges
+ Strong project management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines
+ Work visa sponsorship not offered for this role
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in in consulting or investment banking (M&A, Capital Markets, Equity Research)
• Understanding of or experience with venture capital and fintechs
• Highly Creative
• Proven ability to sell ideas internally, build consensus and drive change
• Strong orientation to analytical rigor, problem solving and consultative role
• Strong critical thinking skills – ability to understand business plans and objectives of groups as they relate to innovation
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $100,000 - $171,000. The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above encompasses all geographic locations. The pay rate specific to your location will fall within this range and is available from your recruiter.
