The Director of Videography will lead a bold, brand-defining video strategy that elevates the national reputation of one of the country's leading public universities This role sits at the center of the central marketing team and is responsible for shaping how the world sees, feels, and talks about our institution through cinematic, emotionally resonant storytelling.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a creative force and strategic thinker. Someone who can both envision, concept, and produce standout work at scale as well as coach the team to produce stand out work at scale that commands attention, earns awards, builds brand equity, and drives measurable impact across digital platforms.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in media arts, film production, digital marketing, journalism, marketing, communications or other applicable field.
+ At least 10 years of progressive experience in videography, photography, or multimedia production and hiring, developing, and managing creative teams in a creative production environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Strong interpersonal and organizational skills: Ability to positively and professionally interact with colleagues, contractors, and interview participants.
+ Working knowledge of office software.
+ Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies.
+ Ability to manage multiple projects, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and meet deadlines.
+ High level of organization and self-motivation.
+ A passion for pursuing Texas A&M’s values and Marketing and Communication’s vision and goals.
+ Ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce reliable and high-quality work products.
+ Ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation.
+ Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Lightroom, and DaVinci Resolve.
+ Strong storytelling skills with an understanding of how to engage audiences visually.
+ Knowledge of digital asset management systems and content distribution platforms.
A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess extensive experience in higher education and government, with a deep understanding of Texas A&M University's brand and audience. This individual will be skilled in aerial/drone photography and videography, holding FAA certification. They will excel in managing multimedia content strategies for large organizations, particularly in higher education and corporate marketing. They will also be proficient in Adobe Premiere and other programs like After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Additionally, has a portfolio featuring high-impact, emotionally compelling videos as well as experience scaling video production and a thorough understanding of video distribution across various platforms.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management:
+ Oversee and manage a team of videographers and multimedia editors, providing hands-on coaching, professional development opportunities, and constructive performance feedback to enhance individual and team growth.
+ Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages creative problem-solving and continuous improvement in visual storytelling.
+ Serve as a mentor by guiding team members in refining their technical skills, storytelling techniques, and industry best practices to elevate the quality of video content.
+ Establish and refine production workflows, efficiently assigning projects based on team strengths, workload balance, and strategic priorities while maintaining high-quality and timely content delivery.
+ Collaborate with Texas A&M internal stakeholders to align visual content with university goals, while also serving as a creative consultant to ensure compelling and effective storytelling.
Visual Content Strategy and Execution:
+ Develop and execute a university-wide visual content strategy that enhances brand awareness and engagement.
+ Lead the conceptualization and production of high-quality video content.
+ Ensure visual content aligns with Texas A&M University’s branding guidelines and marketing objectives.
+ Direct multimedia projects from pre-production to post-production, including scripting, shooting, editing, and final delivery.
+ Maintain a strong understanding of emerging trends in visual storytelling, digital media, and social media content strategy. Incorporating feedback from MarComm colleagues, teams, and executives.
Production Oversight and Creative Direction:
+ Supervise and direct all aspects of video production, including cinematography, lighting, audio recording, motion graphics, and animation.
+ Oversee photography coverage, ensuring high-quality imagery for internal and external communications.
+ Implement and maintain best practices for digital asset management, ensuring efficient storage, tagging, and retrieval of video and photography content.
+ Oversee post-production processes, including editing, color correction, sound mixing, and graphics integration.
Budget and Equipment Management:
+ Manage budgets for videography and photography operations, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.
+ Oversee the acquisition, maintenance, and upgrading of video and photography equipment, ensuring access to industry-leading tools.
+ Manage relationships with external vendors, freelancers, and production agencies as needed.
Compliance, Standards and Accessibility:
+ Ensure all video content meets accessibility standards, including closed captioning and alternative text descriptions.
+ Maintain compliance with copyright, privacy laws, and media usage policies.
+ Establish and enforce quality control measures to maintain brand consistency across all visual content.
