The University of Miami UHealth Department of Perio-Op & Surgery Center has an exciting opportunity for a Supervisor, Central Sterile Processing to work in Miami. The incumbent supervises and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. This position oversees staffing and provides direction and support to department staff to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
+ Ensures the development of staff by providing orientation and continuing education programs.
+ Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
+ Provides for the maintenance of necessary supplies and equipment.
+ Assists in achieving compliance with accrediting and licensing requirements.
+ Serves as a liaison with operating room and other departments.
+ Recommends quality and performance improvement initiatives.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of and follows departmental and medical center policies and procedures.
+ Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
Department Specific Functions
+ Provide professional customer service to all department’s requests.
+ Answer the phone in a professional courteous manner.
+ Achieve and maintain productivity demand level for area.
+ Must utilize department tool aides to prevent errors.
+ Transport case carts as requested following established safety protocols.
+ Transport/ “run” instruments and supplies, delivering items to their destination within an efficient time frame prioritizing patient safety.
+ Adhere to infection control and utilize universal precautions PPE (personal protection equipment) protocols.
+ Daily set up of both decontamination and assembly workstations.
+ Facilitate staging in decontamination; separating sets based on processing requirements and processing locations.
+ Follow established standard of work processes (SOW)for all Decontamination areas.
+ Receive used medical equipment or instruments from various departments.
+ Clean, disinfect, decontaminate, assemble, sterilize and distribute surgical instrumentation.
+ Report broken, malfunctioning instrumentation immediately to leadership.
+ Clean, disinfect, decontaminate medical equipment.
+ Decontaminate and prepare equipment for redistribution.
+ Check equipment for functionality.
+ Report malfunctioning equipment immediately to Biomed, equipment manufacturer and leadership.
+ Assist with Scheduling in-services for staff with equipment and supply vendors and includes such departments as: Materials Management and Bio-Medical.
+ Assist with interviewing and hiring of new candidates, selecting staffing based on the Lennar Culture of creating a utopian medical experience for all.
+ Assist with the evaluation progress of new employees.
+ Assist in the daily reviewing and updating of the Kronos Payroll system for the CSPD, focusing on productive versus non-productive hours, and overtime usage.
+ Produces monthly unit reports and spreadsheets.
+ Supervising, coaching and mentoring of CSPD Technicians.
+ Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of policies, procedures, and protocols for the CSPD department based on regulatory and legislative standards, organizational quality objectives, safety and risk-management standards, and organizational financial standards.
+ Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities.
+ Responsible for maintaining storage area in a safe and orderly manner.
+ Performs clerical duties for the department including, but not limited to, faxing, copying, and mailing, typing any unit essential material and maintaining and ordering office supplies on-line.
+ Reviews daily OR/GI Schedule to assure proper preference card chosen in relation to surgical case scheduled.
+ Assist with equipment and supply usage within established budget parameters for CSPD Department.
+ Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the departmental performance improvement plan for the CSPD department and assure adherence to quality monitoring standards. Collect and analyze data to assess and improve financial performance in the department.
+ Adheres to UHealth Standards of Behavior.
+ Assists with the preparation of staffing master schedule.
+ Other duties as requested by the Manager of Sterile Processing Department.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (preferred)
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience

+ Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
+ Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
+ Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.
+ Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Certification and Licensing:
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Required
Hold one of the following certifications Required.
CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) IAHCSMM
CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) CBSPD
Certification maintenance required.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience

+ Regulatory Requirements
+ Basic computer knowledge including Windows, Word, Excel
+ Ability to multitask.
