    General Description

    Dr. Nancy Bradt, Assistant Professor of Literacy and Social Studies Education at Queens College, CUNY, is seeking a graduate-level research assistant to support ongoing qualitative and mixed-methods research projects in social studies education. Current research projects include, but are not limited to:

     

    + Justice-oriented social studies teacher education

    + The familial curriculum of current events

    + Beginning teachers’ civics confidence and knowledge

    Location : Remote. Ability to travel to Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY), is a plus.

     

    Start date : Targeting June 2, 2025.

     

    Hours : Part-time. Approximately 5–10 hours/week during June–July 2025 and ~5 hours/week during the 2025–2026 academic year, with the opportunity for extension.

    Other Duties

    + Conducting literature reviews and synthesizing research

    + Collecting data (e.g., surveys, interviews)

    + Transcribing, coding, and analyzing qualitative data

    + Analyzing quantitative data

    + Assisting with survey design and data cleaning/entry

    + Formatting references and manuscripts (APA-7)

    + Preparing IRB documents and supporting grant proposal development

    + Completing administrative and logistical tasks related to research projects

    + Other duties as assigned

     

    There may be opportunities to co-author publications depending on experience and contribution to research and writing.

    Qualifications

    Minimum qualification :

    + Current master’s or doctoral student in the field of education

    Preferred qualifications:

    + Current or recent graduate student in education; doctoral students or those focused on curriculum studies or social studies education preferred

    + Strong writing, organizational, and communication skills; ability to work independently

    + Commitment to justice-oriented educational practices and research

    + Experience with qualitative research; familiarity with quantitative or mixed methods a plus

    + Proficiency in APA-7 citation style and locating relevant literature

    + Experience with software such as MAXQDA and SPSS is a plus
