The Ralph O'Connor Sustainable Energy Institute (ROSEI), in partnership with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU), invites applications from outstanding faculty candidates for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position with research interests in areas related to onshore and offshore wind energy. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): the fluid dynamics of wind farms , wind turbine aerodynamics, floating wind turbine dynamics, wind turbine or farm level design, analysis and control, wind energy integration, and other wind energy topics relevant to mechanical engineering. Applications from both experimental and computational backgrounds are welcome.

Successful candidates will join ROSEI, a recently endowed university-wide institute with 17 core and over 70 affiliated faculty (energyinstitute.jhu.edu). This position provides an opportunity to develop a world-class program in wind energy within this interdisciplinary Institute, whose purpose is to place JHU in the forefront of research and policy to support the energy transition. The position is one of several faculty to be hired into the Whiting School of Engineering by ROSEI as a part of a university-wide effort to build a research cluster in sustainable energy generation and transformations. Academic appointment is expected to be made in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, but wind energy research activities within ROSEI involve active collaboration with faculty in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate will join a group of researchers with a long history of interdisciplinary collaboration and have opportunities to engage with faculty from across the university through ROSEI.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at JHU is highly collaborative with large, vibrant educational programs at the undergraduate, master's, and Ph.D. levels and a large cohort of postdoctoral scholars . There are 27 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members, 23 research and teaching faculty members, 240 undergraduates, 250 graduate students, and 25 postdocs. The Whiting School of Engineering and the Johns Hopkins University actively encourage and support interdisciplinary research through school-level research centers and cross-divisional research institutes . In addition to its role in this initiative together with ROSEI, the Department of Mechanical Engineering has strong affiliations with the Center for Environmental and Applied Fluid Mechanics (CEAFM), The Data Science and AI Institute, Laboratory for Computational Sensing Robotics (LCSR) , the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), the Johns Hopkins Institute for Assured Autonomy (IAA), the Institute for NanoBioTechnology (INBT), the Institute for Data Intensive Engineering and Science (IDIES), and t he Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute (HEMI ) . More information about the Department can be found at http://me.jhu.edu and the Whiting School of Engineering at http://engineering.jhu.edu.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, physics, atmospheric or oceanic sciences or a related discipline (or expected to fulfill all of the PhD degree requirements by June 2025) and will be expected to establish an independent, multidisciplinary, and internationally recognized research program.

We seek a colleague who has a demonstrated strong commitment to teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate level and who will contribute to our community by embracing excellence, diversity and inclusion.
