Summary
The Category Manager, Packaging Materials drives competitive advantage, risk mitigation and supplier reliability across all packaging items within Compass Minerals. The individual will be responsible for collaborating with various business units and building effective business relations both internally and externally. Business process and industry knowledge are critical to stay ahead of developing technologies, sustainability needs and customer requirements.

+ Manage, plan, and execute procurement Packaging Materials categories to drive short and long-term results through category strategies, leveraging in-depth industry knowledge, collaboration and influencing at all levels of the organization.
+ Adhere to all procurement policies and delegation of authority requirements for contract approvals.
+ Meet annual team cost savings and avoidance goals.
+ Understand value drivers and negotiate prices and business terms with suppliers
+ Identify and deliver cost reduction ideas with supplier partners to obtain industry-leading solutions and best-in-class results.
+ Conduct internal and external research on supply market and competitive activities within assigned spend categories to identify supply market trends; ensures the identification of a qualified supply base and creation of effective and innovative sourcing strategies.
+ Consolidate and simplify Direct Materials transactional purchase processes in North America, improving collaboration and agility among sites.
+ Define and execute detailed project plans to establish new supplier relationships and grow existing supplier relationships.
+ Perform sourcing and RFX (request for X) exercises to obtain the lowest total cost of ownership while minimizing any Supply Chain risks to the business.
+ Utilize sourcing events via Coupa as needed and support front-end efforts to increase sourcing tools usage.
+ Work with cross functional teams to develop business cases to support process and technology changes.
+ Conduct cost modeling i.e. TCO (total cost of ownership) and ROI (return on investment) to build a business case with recommendations highlighting the best value for the organization.
+ Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications

+ High level of adaptability to manage the changing needs of the business
+ Ability to successfully manage concurrent projects and meet deadlines
+ Ability to work cross-functionally with all levels of internal staff and vendors
+ Strong influencing, change management, and negotiation skills
+ Proficiency with tools/systems to analyze data including Microsoft Office package.
Education and/or Experience
+ Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or similar field. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
+ 5 years of procurement experience, preferably in packaging materials industry
+ Experience in contract negotiation, supplier and sourcing management required. Proven track record of delivering exceptional bottom-line results
