    Title: **Field Construction Supervisor**

    This position will be open to Internal TECO team members for a minimum of 7 days from the date posted.

    POSITION CONCEPT

    The Field Construction Supervisor is responsible for assisting in preparation of field installation contract packages; safe direction of contractor’s work using a ZERO accident philosophy; monitoring daily work activities to assure contractors and subcontractors are supporting the overall project schedule. Additionally, the supervisor will review the project design to identify any potential changes and work with contract personal to review and approve any contract change notices. The Supervisor will ensure the quality of all work performed while identifying construction critical items that may have potential of impacting the work schedule. The supervisor will monitor the project for work rule and CSMP compliance.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Ensure quality of work performed and identify critical items that may impact the project work schedule.

    2. Review project design and identify any potential changes. Review changes with contract personnel for approval of any change notices.

    3. Monitor and ensure that contractors’ work is done in a safe and cost-effective manner. Assist in preparation of field installation subcontract packages. Monitor all assigned projects for Safe Work Practices (SWP) and Contractor Safety Management Program (CSMP) compliance.

    4. Review contractor progress and activities through regular field observation.

    5. Assist with planning and establishing project schedules and following up on actual performance and productivity against estimates.

    6. Support ED Project Management efforts to bid, evaluate and award Mechanical and Civil/Structural contract work. Assign duties and responsibilities to contractors and subcontractors and follow work progress on assigned project areas.

    7. Inspect ongoing work activities to confirm contractor performance to project plans, specifications, and monitor/enforce compliance to all regulatory requirements.

    SUPERVISION

    Direct Supervision: None currently

     

    Indirect Supervision: Indirect Supervision of all contractor management planning personnel

    RELATIONSHIPS

    Key Internal: Interfaces with Contracting Partner, Engineers, Planning Groups, and Managers. Communicates daily with Contractor Supervisors, Construction Supervisors, and with the SPP Construction Manager

     

    Key External: Frequent contact with Senior Management of contractor firms regarding development of estimates and manpower planning. Frequent contact with Warehouse, and TECO Buyers.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

     

    Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction, or related degree.

     

    Licenses/Certifications

    Required: None

    Preferred: None

    Direct Experience

    Minimum of five (5) years of direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is preferred

     

    College degree may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience.

    Related Experience

    Minimum of five (5) years of operations experience in progressively more complex assignments, with at least 4 years underground and overhead distribution construction or design experience.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

    Required: A thorough understanding of the construction, maintenance and operating facets of TEC’s underground and overhead electrical distribution systems, as well as TEC’s Safe Work Practices and Contractor Safety Management Program. Requires mechanical aptitude. Must have the ability to become proficient in TEC’s current work management (WorkPro) and budget software system (SAP), along with the capacity to make successful decisions in high stress situations. Demonstrated strong leadership skills, high work standards and high stress tolerance. Good, planning, organizing, teamwork, oral and written communication skills and the ability to accept, manage, communicate, and facilitate change.

    • Working outdoors in hot. Humid wet and/or cold conditions

    • Walking, bending, climbing stairs throughout the work day

    • Must be able to perform inspections in field/remote locations.

    • Must have the ability to climb stairs, and ladders, enter confined spaces, and work at heights.
