Reports to: Director of Staffing and Recruitment
Position Overview:
The Assistant Director of Staffing and Recruitment will collaborate closely with the Director of Staffing and Recruitment to support and manage the staffing and recruitment efforts for Boston Public Schools (BPS). This position will oversee a team of Human Resources Business Partners (HRBPs) and Recruitment Specialists, assisting in the design and execution of strategies that ensure the district recruits, hires, and retains high-quality staff. The Assistant Director will play a crucial role in supporting staffing operations and ensuring the alignment of recruitment efforts with the district’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Support and Execution:
+ Assist in the development and execution of staffing and recruitment strategies that support the overall goals of the district.
+ Contribute to setting staffing goals and objectives for specific regions and schools in the district, providing guidance to HRBPs and Recruitment Specialists to meet recruitment and retention targets.
+ Support the Director in collaboration with senior leadership to align staffing strategies with the diverse needs of the district, focusing on improving student outcomes.
Team Management and Development:
+ Assist in overseeing HRBPs and Recruitment Specialists, providing support, mentoring, and feedback to enhance team performance and morale.
+ Collaborate with the Director to ensure that HRBPs have the necessary tools, resources, and knowledge to effectively support school leaders in staffing efforts.
Recruitment and Hiring Process:
+ Help design and implement tailored recruitment campaigns that target diverse, high-quality candidates.
+ Support Recruitment Specialists in creating and executing recruitment strategies specific to the needs of schools, regions, and student populations.
+ Oversee key recruitment events such as job fairs, hiring events, and other outreach efforts to increase talent acquisition and awareness of BPS as an employer of choice.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:
+ Support the development of strategies to recruit and hire a workforce that reflects the diversity of the student body.
+ Help deliver training and resources to HRBPs and Recruitment Managers on equitable hiring practices, addressing implicit bias, and fostering inclusive school communities.
+ Assist in ensuring all staffing initiatives are grounded in principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
+ Foster collaborative relationships with school leaders, district leadership, and key stakeholders to align staffing and recruitment efforts with district priorities.
+ Serve as a liaison between recruitment teams and external partners, including universities, teacher preparation programs, and community organizations.
+ Support the Director in ensuring open and effective communication between various departments to address staffing needs and challenges.
Additional Responsibilities:
+ Step in as acting Director in the absence of the Director of Staffing and Recruitment, providing leadership and oversight.
+ Continuously seek out innovative solutions to staffing challenges and opportunities for enhancing the recruitment and retention process.
+ Ensure that recruitment processes are compliant with district policies and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications - Required:
+ Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, Education, Business Administration, or a related field
+ Minimum of 5 years experience working in staffing, recruitment, or human resources, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role
+ Strong knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, with experience in developing and implementing recruitment practices that promote these values
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
+ Proven ability to analyze data and use insights to make informed decisions and improve staffing processes.
+ Ability to handle priorities and thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
+ High level of professionalism and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
+ Proven track record of recruiting staff in high-need areas such as special education and other hard-to-fill positions
Qualifications - Preferred:
+ Masters Degree
+ Experience in K-12 education recruitment, particularly in urban school districts
+ Familiarity with Boston Public Schools or similar public school district structures and policies
+ Fluency in one or more of BPS’ official languages (Arabic, Chinese – Cantonese or Mandarin, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese)
