Job Summary
As a Staff Accountant at Grinnell, you will play a valuable role in the financial operations of the College which supports our campus community and mission.
In This Role, You Will:
+ Account for restricted funds: Work collaboratively with Development & Alumni Relations and the Office of Corporate, Foundation and Government Relations to provide accounting support for restricted gifts and grants.
+ Complete general accounting functions and financial reporting: Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and audit workpapers; forecast use of restricted funds.
+ Collaborate with campus partners: Work with budget managers to provide information and available balances of restricted funds. Provide information as needed to support donor stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:
+ Accounting for restricted gifts (current-use and endowed) including working with budget managers across campus to ensure timely and effective use of gift funds.
+ Monthly accounting of the pooled endowment and reserve funds.
+ Monitor and follow up on restricted gift funds. Provide reports to campus partners as requested.
+ Assist with accounting for external grants (government and private funders) including administration, compliance, and financial reporting.
+ Oversee prize, fellowship and internship payments to ensure donor funds are applied correctly; Notify recipients of tax implications.
+ Assist with maintenance of general ledger chart of accounts and database providing budget managers access to their budgets.
+ Collaborate with other accounting team members and the campus community on various processes and projects.
+ Participate in committees, professional groups, and seminars to stay updated on trends and best practices in budgeting and finance.
+ Assist the Accounting Department with other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university
+ 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience
+ Able to think conceptually
+ Good organizational and planning skills; ability to meet deadlines
+ Strong attention to detail
+ Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituents
+ Independent self-starter with developed critical thinking skills
+ Capability to analyze and interpret policies, terms and conditions, regulations
+ Ability to work collaboratively and recognizes the value of teamwork
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
+ BA in accounting, finance, or another business degree
+ Prior higher education or nonprofit experience
