Job Summary and Qualifications
Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Physician. Responsible for training endtechs and RNs to provide assistance in the procedure room, and PACU/Staging area.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Recognizes the potential for increased stress related to dependency needs of others, i.e., children, and elderly parents.
2. Recognizes anxiety regarding potential changes in lifestyle (i.e., physical, economic) resulting from illness.
Geriatric
1. Recognizes increased physical/emotional dependency needs and availability of support networks.
2. Assists with meals to ensure adequate nutritional intake.
Applies to All Age Groups
1. Takes and records vital signs accurately within the shift.
2. Rounds PRN to anticipate patient needs.
3. Obtains and labels specimens accurately.
4. Alters patient's position Q2° or as assigned.
5. Answers call lights immediately.
6. Assists with toileting needs.
7. Assists patient in/out of beds, chairs or wheelchairs.
8. Gives accurate report of care provided and patients' response to RN Team Leader.
9. Assists with preventive measures for compromised skin integrity.
10. Keeps room orderly for safe patient environment.
11. Immediately disposes of bio-medical and hazardous waste in labeled bio-medical/bio-hazardous waste container.
12. Documents specific patient valuables on designated form when received and immediately contacts security.
13. Performs bedside blood glucose monitoring if assigned to staging.
Patient Documentation
1. Appropriately documents observations, interactions, patient responses, and other pertinent data at the time of occurrence.
2. Gives input to the RN to update the plan of care.
3. Communicates observations of individual patients to the RN/LPN.
Professional Responsibilities
1. Cooperates in temporary assignments.
2. Cooperates with other health team members in achieving common goal of quality health care.
3. Assumes responsibilities for quality care of his/her shift.
Departmental Responsibilities
1. Answers nursing station telephone and relays message to charge nurse and/or other nursing staff.
2. Greets and directs visitors at nursing station.
3. Answers patient call lights and relays information to nursing staff.
LEAD RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for training and maintaining the Endotechs training when needed
2. Assists the charge nurse and director in assessing the educational and training needs of the Endotechs.
3. Assists the charge nurse and the director in assessing the educational and training needs of new RN’s when
setting up the procedure rooms, or assisting the physicians.
CLERICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepares chart on each patient admitted.
2. Under the supervision of a registered nurse in the following manner:
a. Pulls orders and puts in chart.
b. Adds documentation forms to chart as needed.
3. Assists physician in obtaining charts and diagnostics results.
4. Assists with the assembly of the medical record for transfer of patient.
5. Performs the following when receiving a patient:
a. Re-labels doctor name on curtain.
b. Places medical record in chart rack.
6. When adding charting material to medical record, ensures that each paper or form is labeled.
Other Responsibilities
1. Keep unit clean and straight or neat.
2. Maintains supplies, forms and necessary requisitions for the unit.
3. Demonstrates cost effective use and maintenance of unit supplies.
6. Assists department manager with secretarial duties related to unit.
7. Requests supplies to be ordered before the need arises; assures par levels for stock.
8. Assists in readying patient for procedure to keep schedule flowing.
9. Assures patient safety by strict adherence to monitoring that side rails are up at all times and patient is not left unattended.
Technical Responsibilities:
1. Assists the Physician with procedures safely.
2. Assists the RN with procedures.
3. Assists in working the staging area and PACU as needed.
4. Completes assignments on time.
5. Follows P&P for cleaning and disinfect ion of scopes and equipment.
6. Performs other related functions as assigned
7. All paperwork is preassembled by procedure and labeled appropriately
8. Documents patient assessment on pre-procedure record to include vital signs, current medications, and allergies.
9. Assists with the business office tasks.
10. Assists with registering patients.
11. Assists with filing.
12. Answers the telephone Prn.
13. Documents patient pre-procedure record to include vital signs, current medications, weight, and allergies.
14. Assists in working the staging area and PACU area as needed.
15. Provides written and/or verbal report to staging area nurse.
