Amazon Web Services is seeking a High Performance Computing (HPC) Solutions Architect to support our Intelligence Community customers in the Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington, DC area. This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. Citizen and must currently possess an active Top Secret security clearance with polygraph.

Key job responsibilities

HPC is growing in importance as these systems are necessary for the explosion importance of ML and AI. We’re seeing more and more amazing work being done from autonomous vehicles and imagery analysis to financial trading and shipping logistics. Given the scale required for HPC, the cloud is an ideal place to deploy workloads, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the leader. We’re looking for someone passionate and deeply excited about this space. Someone who is devoted to helping IC customers understand how HPC can make a big difference to their mission.

As a HPC Solutions Architect (SA), you will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for designing solutions that leverage AWS services enable and optimize workload key performance indicators. As part of the Specialist Solutions Architecture team, you will work closely with the other Specialist SAs to enable large-scale customer use cases and drive the adoption of AWS for HPC. You will interact with other SAs in the field, providing guidance on their customer engagements, and you will develop white papers, blogs, reference implementations, and presentations to enable customers and partners to fully leverage HPC on AWS. You will also create field enablement materials for the broader SA population, to help them understand how to integrate AWS solutions into customer architectures.

You must have deep technical experience working with technologies related to HPC, such as high-speed I/O (storage, networking), processing (including GPU accelerators), and code customization to exploit underlying hardware. A strong engineering, physics, computer science or mathematics, background is preferred, in addition to experience helping customers architect enterprise grade solutions. You will be familiar with the ecosystem of software, and hardware, vendors in the HPC space. You must have the ability to leverage this knowledge to help AWS customers in their software selection process.

Candidates must have great communication skills and be very technical, with the ability to impress AWS customers at any level, from executive to developer. Previous experience with AWS is desired but not required, provided you have experience building large scale solutions. You will get the opportunity to work directly with senior engineers at customers, partners and AWS service teams, influencing their roadmaps and driving innovation.

This position requires that the candidate selected must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph. The position further requires the candidate to opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree

- 3+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience

- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working with end user or developer communities

- 5+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience

- Experience in a technical role within a sales organization

- Understanding of deep learning training and inference workloads and requirements for high performance compute, network and storage

- 5+ years building or optimizing computational applications for large scale HPC systems (e.g. physics based simulations) to take advantage of high performance networking (e.g. Amazon EFA, Infiniband, RoCE), distributed parallel filesystems (e.g. Lustre, BeeGFS, GPFS) and accelerators (e.g. GPUs, custom-silicon)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $239,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
