The Pharmacy Inventory Specialist I, Research provides inventory support to the Research Pharmacy Department, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The Pharmacy Inventory Specialist I, Research is responsible for stock requests from sponsors of drugs and supplies and delivery for the Longwood location.
The Pharmacy Inventory Specialist I, Research helps to manage inventory between Longwood and our other pharmacy locations. The Pharmacy Inventory Specialist I, Research oversees all aspects of inventory management including, but not limited to, stock rotation, pricing, expired destructions, inventory, and par levels.

+ Practices as a pharmacy technician in accordance with federal, state, DFCI and Joint Commission policies, regulations, and standards.
+ Responsible for tracking inventory on-hand versus usage for all research medications.
+ Place orders via multiple channels (e.g., online systems, paper forms, internal requisition forms, etc.) and creating appropriate documentation and adjusting requests and par levels to meet the actual needs.
+ Track drug requests and shipment arrival to reconcile ordering records. Follow up on orders that have been placed and not yet received.
+ Effectively use inventory management tools such as Excel and nCoup inventory management module to create or run scheduled inventory report and drug expiration report and place drug replacement order promptly.
+ Manage backordered medications and provides communication to clinical trial study teams.
+ Conduct regular cycle counts of all stock to ensure we maintain accuracy in our inventory.
+ Coordinate courier delivery of medications between Longwood and our other pharmacy locations as needed.
+ Maintain logs and forms related to inventory management.
+ Coordinates with Pharmacy Materials Management team for commercial inventory and supplies as needed.
+ Run monthly report to assess and reconcile expiration date changes from research sponsors.
+ Reviews short-dated drugs to ensure they are reordered
+ Review weekly disease center reports for new patients starting clinical trials to ensure appropriate inventory is on hand.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education:
High School or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum Experience:
1 year of experience in a pharmacy inventory role or 1 year of equivalent business experience required.
License/Certification/Registration:
Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy Registration as a Pharmacy Technician required within 6 months of employment. National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) preferred.

+ Knowledge of inventory management control and Research Pharmacy systems.
+ Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
+ Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
+ Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
+ Basic experience with Excel, Word, Microsoft Outlook, and PeopleSoft.
+ Demonstrated flexibility and ability to change and set priorities adapt to new situations and accept additional responsibilities based on the changing needs of the work setting.
+ Ability to prioritize, multitask and meet deadlines.
+ Ability to work with diverse groups of people in an environment of frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
+ Ability to effectively work within a collaborative team-focused environment.
+ Participate in discussions regarding inventory related topics in department meetings.
+ Ability to independently troubleshoot issues and assist in resolution or escalation to the appropriate resource.
+ Ability to utilize references and/or drug information references.
