    Job Description

    Old Dominion University ( ODU ) invites applications for two 10-month full-time faculty Clinical Assistant Professors of Physical Therapy positions within the School of Rehabilitation Sciences in the Ellmer College of Health Sciences, appointment effective July 25, 2025.

     

    The responsibilities of this position include teaching and scholarship in content areas that match the applicant’s scholarly interests, areas of contemporary practice expertise, as well as program and school mission, goals and curricular needs. The individual will also contribute to mentoring doctoral students within the Kinesiology and Rehabilitation and/or the Health Services Research programs. Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring students, engaging in Program, School, College and University service, and professional development.

    Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications

    + Candidates must be a graduate of a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education ( CAPTE ) accredited physical therapy program or equivalent.

    + Candidates must possess an active license to practice as a physical therapist in the state of Virginia by the commencement of employment.

    + Minimum 3 years clinical and/or teaching experience, 5 years preferred and must demonstrate evidence of contemporary clinical expertise.

    Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities

    Candidates must demonstrate evidence of contemporary clinical expertise and experience in teaching clinical skills. Candidates must have effective communication skills and demonstrate evidence of research promise.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience teaching clinical skills and problem solving in an entry-level PT/ PTA program.

    + Expertise in musculoskeletal physical therapy and/or Board-certified specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties ( ABPTS ) in Orthopedics or Sports physical therapy or Fellow in American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapies ( AAOMPT )

    About the Department

    In addition to the DPT Program, the School of Rehabilitation Sciences offers a Doctor of Occupational Therapy program, a Master of Athletic Training program, an undergraduate Recreational Therapy program, and participates in a college-wide Kinesiology and Rehabilitation doctoral program. ODU recently merged with Eastern Virginia Medical School to form the new Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences. This has created an exciting new collaborative environment with the programs available from each entity. We are committed to maintaining a diverse and stable faculty.
