    Job Summary:Responsible for the tax compliance and statutory reporting functions including the development, implementation and maintenance of the underlying procedures and systems. Performs tax research and planning.Essential Functions:

     

    + Responsible for the review and preparation of federal, state, and local income tax and 990 returns, quarterly tax estimates, tax extension requests, sales tax filings, personal property tax statements and the related supporting paperwork documentation.

    + Provides information requests with various internal departments for completing and reviewing annual tax compliance; May work directly with external CPA firm consultants to coordinate review of annual tax returns and/or review of research memos.

    + Provides research and analysis to refine/define corporate policies and ensure proper tax compliance. Communicates, collaborates, networks with and acts as a consultant to key stakeholders.

    + Effectively applies tax knowledge to business tax returns and displays a desire to understand business transactions and related issues and works to constantly develop an understanding of the unique aspects of the healthcare delivery and insurance industries. Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field, including best practices, to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.

    + Maintains federal Power of Attorney for the organization and affiliates, communicates with the IRS or State Treasury Department, providing relevant representation of the organization in tax matters.

    + Provides support for any tax audits with the IRS or any other taxing authority

    + Constantly holds self accountable and is able to work independently. Completes work accurately and on time. Accuracy is required at the highest level. Utilizes available resources to achieve objectives, with a mindset for continuous improvement in processes to achieve efficiency. Meets time budgets and task due dates, communicates and reports deviations from plan.

    Qualifications:Required

    + Bachelor's Degree accounting, finance, business, health care administration, or related field

    + 5 years of experience typically gained through skills/knowledge/abilities accounting, tax, or corporate tax experience.

    Preferred

    + Master's Degree related field

    + Accounting experience in the Health Care and Insurance industries.

    + Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - State of Michigan
