HAZMAT Driver Trainee The HAZMAT Driver Trainee participates in the Arcwood Sponsored Driver Training Program to provide transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials in a safe and conscientious manner.
Essential Functions & Requirements:
+ Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times
+ Drives and operates commercial trucks, as licensed, to transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials
+ Prior to driving transportation equipment, prepares for daily trip by inspecting vehicle and equipment, fueling truck, and ensuring all equipment is in excellent operating order
+ Completes manifests, Company documents, and other marking and placarding documents for every load managed
+ Follows proper inspection, placarding, and load segregation requirements when transporting hazardous materials
+ Maintains electronic hours of service for DOT compliance, in accordance with Company policies and State and Federal regulations
+ Acts as Company representative with courtesy towards every customer; develops good relationships through effective communication
+ Loads freight and may climb tankers, pull hoses, load drums or line boxes as needed
+ Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
Education:
+ High-school diploma or equivalent (required)
+ Previous science-related coursework (preferred)
Experience:
+ CDL License (preferred)
+ Hazmat endorsement (preferred)
+ Tanker endorsement (preferred)
Program Requirements:
If a candidate does not possess CDL credentialing upon hire, they must commit to full participation in the Arcwood Sponsored Driver Training Program and obtain a Class A CDL license with Hazmat endorsement within 6 months of their hire date. Trainees must be able to demonstrate the skills necessary to operate applicable equipment and the authority to operate Class A equipment will be granted by Arcwood Transport Leadership.
Competencies:
+ Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
+ Excellent communication skills for interacting with both internal and external customers
+ Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including a respirator
+ Ability to understand RCRA compliance standards, OSHA safety and DOT regulations
+ Ability to meet Company driving qualifications with a CDL and pass a Motor Vehicle Record background screening to Company standards
+ Ability to obtain valid endorsements as required
+ Regular and predictable attendance to perform the functions and requirements of this role
