JOB DIMENSIONS
• For the activities indicated below, this role will be a senior cross-functional technical resource in Bostik R&D’s Analytical Laboratory in Wauwatosa, WI
• Leads and defines opportunities to refine and grow current skill sets in R&D Analytical
• Can effectively engage business and technical resources to interpret, to solve, and to communicate complex technical problems
• Can independently balance time on supporting immediate versus longer term projects, continuously seeks opportunities to refine and grow current skills, and can provide technical mentorship to R&D Analytical staff
ACTIVITIES
Key technical activities:
• Aligned to Bostik business needs, can design and perform characterization methods and other related analytical techniques. These techniques include rheological, thermal, chromatographic, spectral and microscopy for qualitative and quantitative analysis
• Develops and understands scope and limitations of analytical techniques
• Develops test, calibration, and verification procedures
• Can provide input to the Laboratory Manager on selection and purchase of analytical instrumentation and services
• Can manage maintenance and repair of Analytical equipment and serve as a point of contact with equipment vendors
Key leadership activities:
• Can serve as Analytical project team leader and be a point of contact with customers
• Skilled at applying or extending R&D Analytical capabilities into new service capabilities
• Trains and develops other resources as appropriate, while participating in R&D team activities
• Proactively identifies opportunities to improve R&D Analytical work processes, workplace safety, and Analytical Laboratory documentation
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT
The context and environment of this role are:
• Must effectively execute in a collaborative team environment, while balancing time on strategic research projects with shorter-term immediate technical support requests
• Must demonstrate expertise in technical capabilities supporting multiple chemistries/product families in multiple business units with independent aggressive business plans
• Must provide interpretative data analysis of results from R&D Analytical, from collaborating Bostik and Arkema Analytical teams outside Wauwatosa, from outsource laboratories, and from customers
PURPOSE
Provide technical leadership in Bostik R&D Analytical function through proven experience in (i) characterization and related analysis methods and (ii) interpretative review of analytical data.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Proven relevant experience in managing multiple complex projects in an industrial laboratory. Experience with characterization of chemistries relevant to Bostik is required. Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry / Materials Characterization (or similar) with at least 5-years experience or Graduate degree in Analytical Chemistry / Materials Characterization (or similar) with relevant experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with multiple functions/geographies and multiple levels of education and technical expertise.
