Shipping Manager - Brownstown, MI

The Opportunity:

The Shipping Manager is responsible for warehousing, inventory control, and shipping. This position supervises the hourly Shipping workforce to achieve maximum sustained safety excellence, environmental compliance and product quality. This position reports to the Paper Manufacturing and Logistics Manager and is a key member of the Mill Logistics Team.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

* Lead and support safety programs to help employees work safely and achieve Company goals.

* Support and comply with environmental management policies and systems.

* Determine acceptable disposition of odd lot / loose rolls / beater rolls.

* Supervises / manages crews to include scheduling, training, performance management, etc.

* Ensures SOP\u2019s / JHA\u2019s are complete, updated and followed.

* Manages warehouse flow for 24/7 Operations with multiple shifts.

* Assist planning group by setting up and executing load plans as needed.

* Ensures thorough trailer and railcar inspections and vehicle inspections are conducted.

* Ensures powered industrial truck training is current for all operators.

* Ensures vehicle inspection program is being followed.

* Coordinates with Paper Manufacturing and Logistics Manager on inventory details / needs.

* Prepares data for metric reporting.

* Coordinate with the local planning team to ensure machine production matches available equipment to help manage inventory.

* Coordinate loads with corporate transportation that need to be addressed through the standard scheduling process.

* Support Corporate initiatives such as rail car utilization and various other cost savings efforts.

* Investigate to determine the root cause of any customer claims to ensure prompt resolution.

* Address any carrier related issues, including equipment failures - coordinating responses with Corporate transportation team.

* Ensure mill shipping processes and document control efforts are compatible with ISO standards.

What you need to succeed:

* Bachelor\u2019s (preferred) or Associate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Business Management

* Minimum of 5 plus years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Exceptional critical thinking ability.

* Strong interpersonal and leadership skills essential.

* Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Excellent problem-solving / conflict resolution skills.

* Excellent planning, organizational, time management and prioritization skills.

* Proficient computer skills (including MS Office and familiarity with a CMMS).
