    JOB SUMMARY

    Under supervision, performs semi-skilled and skilled work in maintaining a variety of general landscaping areas and performs maintenance for various landscaping equipment.

     

    This is the second level within a three level series and is distinguished from the Grounds Maintenance Worker 3 in that incumbents generally perform semi-skilled to skilled labor as well as operation of equipment duties and typically work independently under the guidance of the Ground Maintenance Worker 3 and as the lead to the Ground Maintenance Worker 1.

    MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    This list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or is a logical assignment to the position.

     

    + Use various types of hand and power tools such as saws, axes, drills, weed eaters, blowers, shovels, rakes, and hoes. Performs minor adjustments and repairs to such equipment.

    + Mow, edge and trim lawns using hand or riding mowers, edger’s and sweepers; water and weed lawns, shrubs and flower beds; rake and clear litter; clear brush and gather leaves; saw, split and stack wood.

    + Perform tree and shrub trimming periodically. Use clippers as needed to complete the lawn care work to keep all landscaping area in a high quality condition.

    + Sweep and clean facility perimeters.

    + Clean public surface areas and remove graffiti.

    + Mix and use weed killing solutions, fertilizers, and/or other related chemical mixtures.

    + Perform periodic lawn treatment with applicators and equipment, including weeding, fertilizing and aerating.

    + Perform lawn sprinkler system operation and maintenance.

    + Drive non-CDL pickup trucks, automobiles and other small, motorized vehicles in connection with work activities. Perform minor repairs or adjustments, lubrication and safety checks on vehicles and/or trailers.

     

    Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular job responsibilities.

    EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

    Required:

    + High school diploma, GED or equivalent and one (1) year related grounds-keeping maintenance and/or repair work experience.

    + Must be an enrolled Muckleshoot Tribal member.

    SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

    Skilled in: Operating small hand and power tools; operating power lawn mowers, such as riding or push mowers; performing a variety of routine ground-keeping functions; completing assigned work in a timely and efficient manner; safely operating tools and equipment; safely handling fertilizers and chemicals; maintenance of equipment.

     

    Knowledge of: Basic math; safe work practices; basic cleaning and grounds-keeping techniques; uses, handling, and storage of pesticides and herbicides.

     

    Ability to: Read and write; follow verbal and written instructions; operate and care for tools and equipment; observe safety requirements and safe work practices; perform work involving regular physical activity; establish and maintain cooperative work relationships; arrive to work in a timely manner; attend required training; work varying shifts.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this position.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

     

    Licenses or Certifications Required

     

    Must have a current and valid Washington State driver’s license.
