    Job Description

    Library Resource Technician

     

    The Iowa Library for the Blind and Print Disabled is seeking applicants for the position of Library Resource Technician. This position assists with the daily operations of access services including patron services, circulation, collection maintenance and programming for all ages.

     

    Access Services

     

    + Identifies, analyzes and anticipates the needs of patrons; develop courses of action to meet needs by

    + Managing patron accounts using the library's integrated library system including patron transfer

    + Assists with the processing of new patron applications and patron transfers

    + Managing national and state-wide interlibrary loan circulation programs and transactions and reports

    + Accesses relevant and accurate information to interpret eligibility requirements and apply them to patron application and patron transfers

    + Provides Reader Advisory services to patrons by conducting reference and reader advisory interviews to guide patrons to reading materials and information resources

    + Enters patron book lists and requests into the library system

    + Conduct Audio Book and Braille Duplication on Demand circulation processes ensuring the electronic and audio collections are accessible to patrons

    + Processing the daily circulation of all library formats including downloading patron requested books, pulling and mailing braille and large print books and the mailing of equipment

    + Provides high-quality training in the use of specialized formats including digital talking books, digital players, BARD, library's online public catalog and other library services

    + Assists library patrons by explaining the arrangement and resources of the library and informing patrons of special books or materials to promote an understanding of the library and its resources

    + Provides reference services for library patrons; locates requested subject information through catalogs, lists, and retrieval systems

    + Works shifts as needed at the Information Desk

    + Assists in the integration of information literacy concepts into the full range of library services

     

    Collection Management and Development

     

    + Ensures the physical library collections are easily accessible for the public by managing the Braille, Print/Braille and Large Print collections by

    + Daily re-shelving collection materials

    + Maintaining Braille, Print/Braille and Large Print collection stacks by adjusting and consolidating

    + Planning and performing library weeding and conducts shelf shifts in conjunction with weeding

    + Monitoring condition of the collection and shelving capacity

    + Processing overdue materials

    + Creates and analyzes collection use reports

    + Assist in using online vendor selection and ordering tools, print review, and other sources to make purchasing decisions

    + Maintains national and state-wide interlibrary loan transactions and reports

     

    Outreach and Education

     

    + Participate in Library and Department projects, programs and meetings

    + Assist Special Services Librarian and/or Youth Librarian in preparing and conducting programs

    + Participates in the planning and implementation of library programs and outreach as needed

    + Updates job skills that enhance ability to serve patrons

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

     

    Graduation or the equivalent from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time professional experience in work requiring research, use of reference sources and people contact, or book/paper preservation or conservation work;

    OR

    an equivalent combination of the required education and experience, substituting one year of full-time experience for thirty semester hours of education, to a maximum of two years;

    OR

    employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time experience as a Library Associate.
