Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to lead and manage complex mechanical design projects for custom packaging machinery and systems. This role involves providing technical expertise, supporting cross-functional teams, and driving continuous improvement in design and manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will possess high-level engineering aptitude, experience with mechanical design, and a strong understanding of pneumatics, CAD, troubleshooting (root cause), and risk assessments. Heavy documentation, design reports, and manual writing are also key components of this role.
Responsibilities
+ Lead detailed mechanical design projects for custom packaging machinery and systems.
+ Provide technical support to the sales team in developing layout drawings and high-level quotes that meet engineering specifications.
+ Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are feasible and aligned with production capabilities; assist in selecting materials and processes.
+ Offer technical guidance to aftermarket, service, and installation technicians, with potential for on-site support.
+ Implement best practices for design for assembly, ensuring machinery is easy to assemble and maintain.
+ Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including specifications, design reports, and user manuals.
+ Create mathematically verified concepts to resolve packaging challenges, including material analysis, stress/strain, vibration, and pneumatic expectations.
+ Evaluate and select components that meet the technical and physical constraints outlined in project scopes.
+ Design within safety constraints and conduct design risk assessments for verification and documentation.
+ Design new or specialized integrations/modifications according to established specifications regarding size, capacities, and performance.
+ Collaborate with engineering teams, project management, and key stakeholders to address and resolve manufacturing, design, and quality issues, ensuring continuous improvement of processes and methods.
+ Lead design optimization projects to enhance overall design efficiency.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field and 7+ years of experience; a master’s degree is a plus.
+ Experience with manufacturing processes, industry standards, and regulations in packaging machinery.
+ Familiarity with sanitary design concepts for food production and packaging machines is preferred.
+ Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and Vault or equivalent in other similar software.
+ Experience in pneumatic system design is a plus.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to conduct root cause analysis.
+ Experience with hydraulic pumps, skid, troubleshooting, vibration analysis, FEA analysis, assembly, routings, pneumatics, and GD&T.
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based but requires the ability to confirm the status of parts in progress in the shop. While interacting with the shop, the employee may be exposed to fumes, heat, and airborne particles. The noise level in the shop is moderately loud. The use of safety equipment, including but not limited to safety glasses and safety toe work shoes, is required. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.67 - $50.48/hr.
