    The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) District 1, Maintenance Division is currently recruiting for a Maintenance Contract Supervisor (Transportation Engineer III) in Wicomico County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this SHA position or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.

     

    Nature of Work: This position serves as a Maintenance Contract Supervisor. The primary purpose of this position is to serve in a maintenance engineering support capacity. This position will act as a liaison to the District Operations Engineer and highway maintenance inspectors and contractors. This position provides technical assistance in the daily operations of the District 1 maintenance projects. This position assists in developing and managing the district-wide contracts for maintenance. Assignments are performed both in the office and the field by overseeing the maintenance inspectors and contractors and establishing priorities for allocating maintenance contractual expenditures to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. This position reports directly to the District Operations Engineer for guidance regarding SHA policy for contract and supporting documentation. The position provides the highest level of professional experience necessary to ensure that the daily maintenance operations throughout the district counties of Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester are carried out correctly, and in a manner that will least affect the traveling public.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

     

    Experience: Two (2) years of experience in professional engineering.

     

    Selective Qualification: One (1) year of the required experience must have involved project management related to the construction of highway bridge projects and/or system preservation.

     

    *This statement contains a selective qualification, which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or ability).

    Notes:

    1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

    2. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

    3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.

     

    Licenses & Certifications

     

    Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operation’s license valid in the state of Maryland with less than four (4) points.

    Candidates must earn these certifications within the first 6 months of employment:

    + Traffic Control Manager’s Certificate

    + Hot Mix Asphalt Certification

    + Pavement Marking Certification

    + Concrete Certification

     

    Additional Information

    Special Requirements:

    This position is considered essential and is required to be available to supervise and coordinate on site when needed for Emergency Response Call-outs, 24 hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
