Responsibilities Participate in cultural resource clearances to identify cultural, historic and/or paleontological resources in areas designated for surface disturbance. Conduct site inventory; prepare description of artifacts found; and identify and package artifacts to be removed from site. Identify cultural, historic and/or paleontological resources to provide predictive information to be used in the Bureau's planning system. Compile and provide preliminary analysis of data and incorporate findings into reports. Assemble data in a logical sequence. Prepare information such as reports, maps, and photographs pertaining to the inventory. Update automated databases. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Experience: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level or higher in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience in Archeology fieldwork. Archeology fieldwork is defined as, under supervision, surveying for and/or excavating archaeological resources, and recording the results of such survey or excavation using appropriate data collection methods. -OR- Education: have completed four (4) years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in archeology, or anthropology with an archeology focus, or related field of study. - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: Work is physically challenging and involves bending and walking in difficult terrain and densely vegetated while carrying a backpack/equipment up to 30 pounds. Work around aircraft in unprepared landing areas. Fly in helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. Camp and/or live in remote and primitive conditions, to include sleeping in a tent and preparing own food. Work Environment: Field work is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions and injuries and discomforts from pests or dangerous animals. Education Applicants may qualify for these positions based on experience, education, or an equivalent combination as described in the Qualifications section of this announcement.
