    Job Description:

    -Provide Career Advising to Students and Graduates

    Administer and independently manage counseling services for students and graduates of the law school. Advise J.D. and LL.M. students in all aspects of their job search activities including resume drafting, cover letter preparation, interview skills development and the identification of potential employers; and assisting students in identifying the areas of career interest and work environments most consistent with their personal and professional needs. Counsel law graduates seeking employment to change jobs or career direction and assist them in identifying opportunities in their current or newly chosen areas of employment, and assist graduates in their resume preparation, job search, interviewing and networking activities.

    -Provide Academic Advising to Current Students

    Provide academic advising and general information to current law students regarding course selection, externships, clinics, student groups, journals and other opportunities to maximize their law school experience. Advising will include regular one-on-one meetings with law students as well as the development of programming throughout the year.

     

    -LL.M. Career Initiatives

     

    Design and implement tax and international LL.M. programming, networking events, and workshops for students and employers. Maintain relationships with LL.M. employers and develop additional relationships to expand opportunities for students. Create and edit LL.M. resources, handbooks, and websites.

    -Monitor Student Progress

    Use and refine appropriate electronic databases to monitor and track student progress and ensure students are on track to graduate in a timely manner, pass the bar exam, and pursue summer and permanent employment. Regularly review student progress, identify students who need support, and collaborate with others to determine appropriate outreach and support strategies for those students.

    -Develop Initiatives to Support Faculty Advising and Student Self-Advising

    Support and coordinate advising by faculty members and empower students to engage in self-advising. These initiatives will include the development of training sessions and the preparation of printed and website materials designed to facilitate student self-advising and to assist faculty in advising students and identifying students at risk.

     

    -The College of Law is growing and changing daily. All College of Law community members are expected to perform other duties as assigned in furtherance of our strategic goals

     

    Expected Salary:$75,000

    Required Qualifications:

    Master's degree in an appropriate field and three years of experience or a bachelor's degree and five years of related experience.

    Preferred:

    Juris Doctor and/or LL.M. and legal practice experience of at least three years or equivalent knowledge of potential career paths for law students, including knowledge of private and non-profit law firms, judicial clerkships, government practice, and in-house legal positions.

     

    Strong emotional intelligence and listening skills, as evidenced by training in education, counseling, or mental health; a record of pro bono work with vulnerable populations; or other professional development training.

     

    Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to counsel one-on-one, to lead large group programs, and to develop website and printed material for both students and faculty members.

     

    The ability to use and refine electronic databases to monitor student progress.

     

    A proven track record of creative problem-solving and success working in a team environment.
