About This Role:
Lamar University is inviting applications for the academic advisor position within the Department of Leadership and Professional Studies. The purpose of this position is to provide high-quality academic advisement and career guidance to current and prospective majors within the Department of Leadership and Professional Studies. This position reports to the Chair.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
+ Advise traditional on-campus and online (non-AP) undergraduate students in person, by phone, and/or via email/virtual session regarding core curriculum, course selection, degree exploration, graduation, campus resources, and departmental and university policies and procedures.
+ Manage Leadership and Professional Studies graduation advising and services for students by identifying and addressing students’ academic needs; clarifying academic and career goals; monitoring progress toward degree completion; conducting exit interviews; preparing accurate degree plans and audits for graduation; providing resources and referrals to strengthen academic performance; and collaborating with the Graduation Office.
+ Facilitate, communicate, and document advising services through various technologies such as Navigate, Degree Works, Banner, and others.
+ Assist the Chair by contributing to and participating in departmental planning, development, training, and reporting.
+ Work closely with faculty, staff, and other personnel across the University to provide excellent customer service to students.
+ Assist Departmental team with and participate in University and Department functions; serve on committees and special projects as needed; and perform additional departmental duties as assigned.

+ Superior oral/written communication skills
+ Computer proficiency, especially in MS Office applications and Banner
+ High level of organizational and interpersonal skills
+ Demonstrated ability to provide high quality customer service to students
+ Ability to keep accurate, detailed records
+ Experience in working with students from various backgrounds
Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
+ 1 year closely related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
+ Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
+ At least one year of experience in academic advising within a regionally accredited university or college setting
+ Experience with and knowledge of Degree Works, Navigate, Banner, and Microsoft Office
