    Position Summary

    The Department of Biology at University of Wisconsin – River Falls seeks a biologist with a background in genetics to support our Biological Sciences program including Biomedical and Health Science, Ecology & Organismal Biology, and General Biology curricula. Teaching responsibilities will include lecture and laboratory courses in Genetics, Epigenetics, Molecular Biology, and General Biology. Additional courses could include existing courses such as Cellular and Molecular Biology or Fundamentals of Biological Evolution, or the successful candidate may have opportunities to develop additional upper-level courses in subjects such as genomics/bioinformatics or others according to his/her expertise and will be encouraged to integrate inquiry/research into courses. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track undergraduate faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology. The standard teaching load is 24 credits in one academic year. The successful candidate will be committed to teaching in a primarily undergraduate institution and demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching, advising, and research. Opportunities for optional summer employment through teaching, research grants, and other funding sources may be available.

    Responsibilities

    + Teach courses supporting the biology program, including Genetics, Epigenetics, Molecular Biology, General Biology, and possibly Evolution, or other courses depending on the interests and experience of the applicant.

    + Establish and maintain a program of peer-reviewed research.

    + Engage in in-class and/or extracurricular scientific inquiry with undergraduates.

    + Serve as academic advisor for Biology-Department majors.

    + Be involved in department, college, and university committees as well as community service where academic expertise can be shared.

     

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    Qualifications Required:

    + Ph.D. in Biology, Genetics, or a related field.

    + Post-Doctoral or relevant experience.

    + Research experience in Genetics (or related field) with a record of publication.

    Qualifications Preferred:

    + Evidence of effective teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

    + Experience mentoring and advising undergraduate students.

    + Experience seeking and/or managing research funding.
