This position exists in PERA’s member call center to deliver PERA benefit information and respond to stakeholder inquiries of a routine nature, either by phone, in person or in writing, explaining the PERA benefits and options that will meet their financial goals and needs, and helping them understand the value of retirement planning specific to PERA benefits.
In addition, the incumbent in this position may perform routine and some manual calculations; some calculations will be audited.
Once new hire training is complete, this position is telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) eligible. The telework policy offers a hybrid work schedule which may include telework up to 50% of the scheduled workdays each month, based on agency and department needs and other dependencies. Scheduled in-office work days are at PERA’s office building in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Candidates located outside the state of Minnesota or from a county that does not border Minnesota are not telework eligible.
This posting will be used to fill two (2) Retirement Service Specialist positions.
Minimum Qualifications

One and one half (1.5) years of experience in retirement planning, program administration, or financial services
*A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance may substitute for one (1) year of experience
Years of experience **_must_** **_clearly_** demonstrate the following:
+ Advanced interpersonal skills and excellent written/verbal communication skills demonstrating the ability to provide customer service, communicate comprehensive benefit information, and counseling to a wide variety of stakeholders
+ Analyticalandproblemsolvingskillssufficienttoevaluatefacts,drawconclusions,andofferrecommendations
+ Abilitytoperformandauditroutinemathematicalcalculations
+ ExperienceusingMicrosoftOfficesoftware
+ Ability to work effectively and efficiently independently and in a team environment
+ Experience providing explanation of benefits or administering employee benefits
Preferred Qualifications
+ Working knowledge of public pension plans
+ Experience working in a high volume call center with the primary focus of delivering customer service and administering retirement benefits, including benefit plan policy interpretations and explanations
+ General knowledge of Minnesota Statutes Chapters 353 and 356, relating to benefits and membership eligibility of the Association
+ Knowledge of the 45 Police and Fire Relief Association, and Statewide Volunteer Firefighter (SVF) pension plans
+ Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance
Physical Requirements
Requires occasional lifting and/or carrying of articles such as file folders, ledgers, and small office equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one that involves sitting, a certain amount of movement is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
