    What is a Claims Adjuster?

     

    A Claims Adjuster works closely with counsel to respond to damage claims, subpoenas, and property damage claims. A Claims Adjuster also supports collecting all damages to the Company’s facilities and manages litigation files.

     

    What does a Claims Adjuster do?

    Under supervision and with the opportunity for independent action and judgment:

    + Investigates claims for auto, property damage and bodily injuries and manages claims and litigation case files

    + Retrieves data and documentation from Company records to respond to and assist with subpoenas, litigations, and requests of attorneys

    + Works closely with local attorneys on files assigned including attending depositions, court conferences, mediations, etc.

    + Provides guidance and assistance to Company personnel regarding claims matters

    + This position requires rotational on call responsibilities

    + Provides support for storm/emergency restoration efforts

     

    What does it take to be a Claims Adjuster?

    Required:

    + Bachelor’s degree in business, legal studies, criminal justice, or a related field. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree in the aforementioned fields and 3+ years of experience in claims, insurance, legal defense work or a related field. In lieu of an associate’s degree, a high school diploma or equivalency degree and 5+ years of related experience in claims, insurance, legal defense work or a related field.

    + Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly

    + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with both internal and external stakeholders

    + Strong investigative and negotiation skills

    + Strong analytical, organizational, and strategic thinking skills with a high level of attention to detail

    + Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision

    + Must be willing to travel and work non-traditional hours as needed

    + Valid driver’s license

    Preferred:

    + General knowledge of and/or experience with civil litigation

    This position has a career path which allows for advancement opportunities within a job series. The title and level are commensurate with experience. Pay range: $63,700 - $128,400
