Job Description: Senior Property Accountant

Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Property Accountant to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial in overseeing and managing the financial performance of a portfolio of properties, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and operational efficiency. The Senior Property Accountant will play a key role in providing actionable insights to property management teams and stakeholders, while acting as a mentor to entry-level accounting staff.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Accounting and Reporting:

+ Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the assigned portfolio of properties.

+ Maintain general ledger accuracy by conducting reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.

+ Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory standards, managing the timely close of monthly accounting cycles.

2. Budgeting and Forecasting:

+ Collaborate with property and asset management teams to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts.

+ Analyze variances between budgets and actual results and provide actionable recommendations.

3. Property Management Support:

+ Ensure rent collections, property-level expenses, and capital improvements are accurately recorded and reconciled.

+ Advise and assist property managers with financial queries and the interpretation of financial data.

4. Compliance and Tax Coordination:

+ Prepare and coordinate with third-party providers on property tax filings and audits.

+ Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations specific to property ownership and management.

5. Process Improvement:

+ Identify and implement process improvements for property accounting workflows, incorporating ERP software tools for efficiency.

+ Stay up to date with advancements in financial technology, including emerging AI platforms to enhance reporting and operational accuracy.

6. Mentorship:

+ Provide guidance to entry-level accounting staff through training, mentoring, and oversight of day-to-day activities.

Requirements

Qualifications:

+ Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

+ Experience: Minimum of 3 years in property or real estate accounting, with progressive experience and leadership responsibilities.

+ Proficiency in ERP accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, SAP) and advanced Excel skills.

+ Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with financial reporting and reconciliations.

+ Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

+ Industries: Preference for candidates experienced in real estate or construction industries.
