Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will help our ES62/ECLSS Team in supporting the various workloads we do every day. Support will include work as a journeyman level technician with building, repair, maintenance, wiring, and troubleshooting of vacuum systems, test stands, and other ground support equipment. In addition to the physical labor (Moving, lifting, cleaning), you will also work on mechanical/wiring/electrical/ plumbing of various Environmental Control Life Support (ECLSS) and Advanced Exploration Systems (AES), and Life Support Systems (LSS). This position is intended to be for full-time work (onsite 5 days a week). Skills in precision assembly is a plus.
Qualifications:
Typically, educational requirement is a High School diploma or GED or equivalent; and at least 10 years of relevant previous experience and continuing education or an Associate's Degree or equivalent and at least 6 years of relevant previous experience.
The selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, automobile liability insurance and successfully complete a company defensive driving training class.
+ Strong skillset in precision assembly is a plus.
+ Experience with compression and/or flared fittings, tubing and plumbing is desired.
+ Welding skillset is a plus but not required.
+ Machining experience is desired but not required.
+ Must possess the ability to use a variety of hand tools, ladders, portable elevated work platforms, and stairs.
+ Ability to work in awkward spaces due to curvature and floor levels of ECLSS Development Branch Simulators.
+ Maintain all safety certifications pertinent to the ECLSS Development Branch.
+ Work as part of a team of engineers, technicians, and chemists to provide ECLSS Development Branch test support for NASA while maintaining a strong consciousness about safety.
+ Strong skillset of testing instrumentation and equipment is a plus.
+ Experience with Microsoft Office Suites (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is highly desired.
+ Teamwork and partnering skills are required.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
**Physical Requirements:** Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (5%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (5%). Requires work in a test facility environment (90%). Physical labor (lifting equipment, parts, test components)
Work Environment:
Intended workload:
90% physical labor, 10% computer work/training.
Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel only onsite at MSFC (Marshall Space Flight Center).
**Equipment and Machines:** Requires ability to operate a personal computer, telephone, task related software, and other general office equipment (100%).
**Attendance:** Normal workday is from 7:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
