Position Summary: Windom Elementary School (615 students) leadership duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
• Valid NYS Certification - School Building Leader Certification (SBL or SAS)
• No less than five (5) years' experience in an educational setting (elementary preferred)• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff & parents.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and written communication skills that fosters relationships with teachers, staff and parents.
• Instructional leadership with expertise in developmentally appropriate instruction for elementary students. Deep knowledge in literacy and numeracy instruction is essential.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement curriculum with knowledge of common core curriculum.
• Embodiment of a lifelong learner with a mindset for growth who supports the professional learning community within the school.
• Goal-oriented educational leader who collaboratively creates a vision for continued growth and success.
• Maintains high visibility in the school and district.

OVERVIEW:

JOB GOAL:
The Principal will implement the programs of the District, and plan, implement and evaluate efforts to improve the educational outcomes for students. The Principal's efforts will focus on achievement of educational excellence and total quality of programs for all learners, while fostering a safe and collaborative school culture for all stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Curriculum Development, Supervision and Evaluation
• Possesses expertise in elementary education, pedagogy, curricula and NYS learning standards, with particular knowledge in early and emergent readers, writers and mathematicians;
• Participates in and leads curriculum development activities commensurate with school and District goals;
• Fosters a professional learning community where all personnel are encouraged and supported to develop expertise;
• Collaboratively utilizes appropriate school and community personnel in evaluating curriculum;
• Identifies curricular and extracurricular needs by analyzing current programs and student achievement;
• Regularly uses the results of student data to identify problems and implement program improvements.
Student Assessment and Monitoring
• Emphasizes student achievement and social emotional well-being as the primary outcome of schooling;
• Systematically assesses and monitors student progress. Whenever possible, uses objective and verifiable information;
• Provides meaningful information to parents and others regarding student progress;
• Works with staff to systematically identify and support at-risk students with evidenced-based interventions;
Student and Staff Relations
• Models strong interpersonal skills, effectively interacts with others;
• Fosters a positive and supportive school climate and culture by celebrating the successes, accomplishments and efforts of students and staff;
• Solicits information from school personnel and community in gauging school climate;
• Fosters collegial relationships with and among teachers and staff;
Establishing an Effective Workplace
• Maintains high visibility in the school;
• Develops and maintains positive staff morale;
• Defines and articulates a school philosophy with vision;
• Sets and meets appropriate school-wide objectives on an annual basis;
• Coordinates student and teacher schedules to promote central objectives and protects instructional time for students and staff;
Professional Development
• Encourages continual learning and growth, and provides resources (i.e. time, instructional coaching, professional development, mentoring, etc.) for self and all staff.
Personnel Development
• Works with the Asst. Superintendent for Personnel regarding the selection process for hiring teaching and SRP staff assigned to the building;
• Demonstrates objectivity in personnel evaluation; provides meaningful and timely feedback
• Makes personnel assignments based on a knowledge of employee's ability, qualification, past performance and school needs;
Communications
• Is accessible, listens and responds appropriately to staff, student and community concerns;
• Respects differences of opinion and fosters open communication among staff;
• Communicates effectively with students individually, in groups, and in school assemblies;
• Speaks and writes effectively;
• Keeps the Superintendent of Schools and other appropriate central office administrators informed of school activities and problems in a timely manner;
• Communicates and works with central office, supervisory personnel, and other principals to share ideas,
problems, expertise, resources, and personnel.
Decision Making and Problem Solving
• Considers research findings and various inputs, alternatives, and consequences in the decision making process;
• Makes decisions in a timely fashion, maximizes decision effectiveness by follow-up actions and documents efforts;
• Cleary communicates decisions and rationale to all affected;
• Identifies problem areas and seeks solutions before crisis situations develop;
• Effectively delegates decision making and problem solving to appropriate personnel;
Community Relations
• Interacts with school district and parent groups to promote positive outcomes;
• Keeps the community informed about school activities through newsletters, attendance at parent meetings, and the like;
Personal Development
• Develops skills through active participation in professional activities and organizations and models the concept of being a lifelong learner;
• Keeps abreast of current changes and developments within the profession;
• Views self as a role model for expected staff and student behavior;
Other Duties:
• Performs and completes other duties and responsibilities as specifically determined by the Superintendent of Schools.
Terms of Employment:
• Determined in the current agreement between the Orchard Park Principals Association (OPPA) and the District.
Evaluation:
• An annual evaluation is conducted by the Superintendent of Schools are appropriate under law and regulation of NYSED.
REPORTS TO:
The Superintendent of Schools
SUPERVISES:
Directly supervises all staff assigned to the Principal's building. The Principal also supervises the students and any volunteers assigned to the building.
