The Position

Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This position is located in the Traffic Safety Engineering Division in Carson City. This position participates in and supports programs associated with the core Federal-aid Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) by participating in planning, identification, design, and analysis of projects that meet HSIP and division goals. This position conducts safety inspections and project meetings as directed. Coordinates with NDOT divisions, local agencies, and consultants with limited supervision. Incumbent will conduct preliminary project quality calculations, cost estimation, benefit/ cost ratio, and Highway Safety Manual Analysis. This position supports the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) in an effort to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, fatal and serious injury crashes on Nevada's roadway system. This position requires travel to remote locations throughout the State, often with overnight stays. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
