    Job Title: Production Supervisor

    Summary/Objective

    The production supervisor is responsible for leading the operations of their department or area to ensure an efficient and coordinated work effort. This role focuses on safely producing high-quality finished goods in a timely and cost-effective manner. The production supervisor directly oversees team leads and indirectly manages hourly team members. This position will report to the production manager.

    Essential Functions

    + Ensure daily production meets established standards.

    + Achieve weekly production schedules and required service levels.

    + Ensure compliance with plant/company rules, regulatory standards, and quality system requirements, including food plant sanitation and environmental regulations.

    + Implement and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) according to Group and industry standards, consistently striving to meet established quality and customer requirements.

    + Develop, enforce, and promptly address safety standards, policies, rules, and regulations to mitigate potential safety hazards.

    + Prepare shift reports, including logs, quality assessments, and equipment needs, while coordinating with other supervisors for seamless shift transitions.

    + Utilize Labware, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), inventory management system (SAP), and maintenance historian system to complete investigation corrections and maintain awareness of issues.

    + Ensure timely production line starts, minimize changeover and idle time, and manage staffing and overtime to meet labor cost targets.

    + Monitor and reduce ingredient usage, rework, washouts, shutdowns, and waste to enhance packaging yield and minimize material losses.

    + Control departmental expenditures to adhere to budget and support projects and trials with proper documentation.

    + Establish, adapt, and analyze KPIs, formulating action plans for process improvements, cost reduction, quality enhancement, and work simplification.

    + Implement continuous improvement activities and methodologies in the Production Department.

    + Manage operations personnel, including hiring, orientation, training, coaching, feedback, development, recognition, discipline, and conduct annual employee reviews.

    + Manage employee time and attendance data in the relevant systems to ensure accuracy.

    + Facilitate cross-functional communication with other departments and locations as necessary to ensure smooth operations.

    + Schedule personnel and provide direction to leads and hourly team members for efficient workflow and production schedule adherence.

    + Foster positive employee relations through effective interpersonal skills and oversee training requirements for production employees.

    + Be willing to adjust work schedule, including working overtime and weekends, as required.

    + Take on specific responsibilities of the production manager when they are not present.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

     

    Work Environment

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee works on the production floor and in an office environment. Some occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The employee is exposed to a humid and wet environment at times and could also be exposed to cold conditions in the coolers.

     

    The use of steel-toed safety shoes, ear plugs. Hair/beard nets, lab coats, and other personal protective equipment is required.

     

    This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The role also routinely uses production and process equipment.

     

    Physical Demands

     

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use fingers to type. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must occasionally lift or move items up to and over 50 pounds.

     

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

     

    This is a full-time position. Occasional off shift work hours will be required. Weekend and holiday work required as needed.

     

    Travel

     

    This position requires <10% travel. Occasionally travel is outside the local area and overnight.

     

    Required Education and Experience

     

    + High school diploma or equivalent;

    2. 3-5 years’ experience as production lead or supervisor in manufacturing;

    3. Proficient in Microsoft Office software;

    4. Leadership, problem solving, organizational, and strong communication skills.

    Preferred Education and Experience

    1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;

    2. Five - eight years of general manufacturing experience; dairy or food manufacturing

    3. SAP, OEE, and CIM experience;

    4. Continuous Improvement knowledge

    Work Authorization/Security Clearance

     

    Eligible to work in USA.

     

    Food Safety and Product Quality

     

    This position is responsible for supporting the food safety management system and for communicating food safety issues to the Quality Department.
