    What We Want

     

    The Assistant Director position is responsible for strategic and programmatic oversight, supervision of staff, and management of operations in the Student Organization Leadership & Development (SOLAD) area. Additionally, this position oversees the administration of student organization recognition and serves as the primary education and consulting resource related to risk management activities for student organizations and their events.

     

    What You Need To Know Salary: $75,624/year

     

    Professional Development: May be eligible for up to $3,600/year of departmental funding for professional development opportunities and conference attendance.

    Additonal Details: Ability to work nights and periodic weekends as needed. QualificationsRequired Education and Experience:

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + Six years of progressively responsible administrative or management experience in student affairs in higher education.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    + Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.

    + Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Advanced degree in higher education, student affairs or related field from an accredited institution.

    + Five or more years post-graduate experience in higher education, student affairs, or specific area(s) described in this position description.

    + Significant student group advising, leadership training, risk management, supervisory ability, and experience in the specific area(s) described in this position description.

    Responsibilities

    + Administration: Facilitates recognized student organization audit processes. Provides financial oversight for student organization budgeting. Consults with various constituent groups on marketing and communication as well as student travel. Establishes and maintains vendor and donor relationships. Manages technological resources, inventory, and document review. Researches higher education trends of student-related risk management issues. Facilitates regular review of University Rules for consistency with current policies, procedures, and practices guiding student organizations and works with departments, colleges, faculty, staff, and administrators to more fully understand the rules and policies related to student risk management issues. Additionally, consults with various constituent groups on adherence to policies and procedures, financial oversight, marketing and communication, vendor and donor relationships, training, document review, and other administrative tasks as required.

    + Supervision and Oversight of Student Organization Development & Administration: Serves as primary manager of Student Organization Development & Administration. Provides direct and indirect supervision of budgeted employees, graduate and practicum students, and student workers. Coordinates strategic planning for the area and develops the area budget. Consulting on university risk initiatives or concerns, and contributes to department marketing and development as needed. Coordinates area assessment planning and assists the Director Staff with department-wide initiatives and planning.

    + Advising: Provides training and development for students and advisers, risk management activities, and programming and logistics of events. Advises student organization leaders on recruitment and retention, evaluation of programs, and other tasks as required. Oversees the planning, implementation, and assessment of proactive risk management initiatives and resources.
