Robert Half Management Resources is recruiting for a strong Interim Audit Manager who will oversee SOX Testing for our retail client in the Los Angeles South Bay area on a 1-2 month primarily on-site project.

Overview:

Our client, a leading retail organization, is seeking an experienced Interim Audit Manager to oversee SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) testing for a specialized scope of operations, including sales inventory, general accounting, and related process controls. This is a critical interim role to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and provide assurance on internal controls during an ongoing audit cycle. The assignment requires a hands-on Audit Manager with strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and familiarity with retail accounting environments.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the execution of SOX compliance testing for key controls related to sales inventory, general accounting, and other critical operations.

• Develop and execute detailed testing plans to ensure adherence to SOX Section 404 requirements.

• Coordinate with internal departments, including finance, operations, and IT, to collect necessary documentation and support for testing procedures.

• Oversee audit staff or external resources to ensure timely and high-quality completion of audit activities.

• Identify control deficiencies, document findings, and collaborate with management to design and implement corrective actions.

• Prepare comprehensive audit workpapers and reports for review by internal leadership and external auditors.

• Provide expert guidance on retail-specific compliance requirements and assist in resolving audit issues.

• Ensure all audit activities align with company policies, industry regulations, and applicable standards.

• Work with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for enhancing internal controls and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

• A certification such as CPA, CIA, or CISA is preferred but not mandatory.

• At least 7 years of experience in audit or SOX compliance roles, ideally within the retail or a similar industry.

• Strong knowledge of SOX Section 404 requirements and internal control best practices.

• Proven expertise in handling controls related to sales inventory and general accounting processes.

• Experience managing external auditors during interim or year-end audits.

• Proficiency with accounting systems and audit documentation tools, such as Microsoft Excel or specialized audit software.

• Excellent project management, multitasking, and communication skills in a dynamic work environment.
