Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant with nonprofit accounting expertise and proficiency in MIP Fund Accounting software to assist our client with critical financial operations on a contract basis. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional familiar with nonprofit financial management, grant tracking, and fund accounting. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting while maintaining compliance with regulations and nonprofit accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
+ Manage financial reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements following GAAP standards specific to nonprofits.
+ Fund accounting: Ensure proper allocation of funds, perform reconciliations, and monitor restricted and unrestricted fund activities.
+ MIP Accounting Software: Utilize MIP Fund Accounting to perform general ledger (GL) functions, journal entries, and financial reporting.
+ Grant compliance and reporting: Track grant revenue and expenditures to ensure compliance with donor or grantor requirements, and prepare grant-specific financial reports.
+ Budget preparation and monitoring: Assist in the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of organizational budgets, ensuring timely forecasting and variance analysis.
+ Month-end and year-end close: Perform account reconciliations, accruals, and adjustments as part of the close process.
+ Audit support: Prepare schedules, documentation, and reports required for audits, including Single Audits in accordance with federal regulations.
+ Internal controls improvement: Assess financial processes and propose improvements to strengthen internal controls and streamline operations.
+ Collaborate with leadership to provide financial insights and recommendations to aid in strategic decision-making.
Requirements
+ Nonprofit accounting experience: Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong focus on working with nonprofit organizations.
+ MIP Fund Accounting software: Demonstrated expertise in the use of MIP for fund accounting, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
+ Deep knowledge of nonprofit regulatory requirements and compliance, including grant and restricted fund management.
+ Strong understanding of GAAP, especially as it relates to nonprofits.
+ Advanced proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and formulas) and ability to adapt to new software platforms quickly.
+ Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
Preferred Skills
+ Familiarity with federal funding and grant compliance, including OMB Circular A-133 (Single Audit) and Uniform Guidance regulations.
+ Exposure to other nonprofit-specific accounting systems or donor management tools is a plus.
+ Experience in preparing 990 tax filings.
