Description

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to play a pivotal role in managing our client's financial operations in Frederick County Virginia. In this position, you will work closely with the Chief Accounting Officer to ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting standards for a publicly traded company. This role requires strong leadership and technical expertise to oversee critical accounting functions, audits, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor the accounting team by providing guidance, training, and opportunities for skill development.

• Oversee and coordinate month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger activities, while ensuring compliance with U.S. financial regulations.

• Conduct detailed variance analyses and provide explanations of financial performance to stakeholders.

• Evaluate and develop critical accounting assumptions for areas requiring significant judgment, such as warranty reserves, sales programs, income taxes, and material accounts.

• Perform in-depth research on complex accounting issues and draft technical audit memos to ensure compliance with Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) regulations.

• Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and accounting policy manuals to support consistent financial practices.

• Oversee preparation of financial reports and ensure alignment with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules and regulations.

• Support external and internal audits by providing required documentation and addressing inquiries.

• Manage tax filings and ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations.

• Collaborate with senior leadership to align financial strategies with organizational goals.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting or financial management roles.

• Expertise in accounting software systems, including proficiency in tools such as ADP Financial Services and Concur.

• Strong knowledge of accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and general accounting functions.

• Experience with auditing processes and preparing detailed financial reports.

• Familiarity with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting regulations.

• Ability to perform detailed variance analysis and interpret financial data accurately.

• Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a high-performing team.

• Excellent research and analytical abilities to address complex accounting issues.
