• Director of Accounting

    Robert Half Finance & Accounting (St. Paul, MN)


    Description

    We are seeking a seasoned financial leader with a strong background in accounting. The ideal candidate will possess 7+ years of progressive experience, including leadership roles, and demonstrate deep expertise in financial close processes, regulatory compliance, and internal controls. Experience in healthcare, insurance, or durable medical equipment (DME) sectors is highly valued. This Director position is onsite 5 days/week in St. Paul and pays $140,000-$180,000 plus bonus. Benefits include but are not limited to medical, dental, 401k (5% match).

    Key Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

    + Active CPA is required

    + Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting, with significant leadership responsibilities

    + Industry experience in healthcare, insurance, or related regulated environments is ideal but not required

    + Prior public accounting experience, with an audit focus, is required

    + Deep understanding of GAAP and emerging accounting standards

    Core Responsibilities

    + Lead the monthly and annual financial close cycles

    + Oversee preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements

    + Establish and maintain best practices for accounting close and reporting procedures

    + Provide oversight across accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, audit, tax, billing, and treasury functions

    + Manage cash flow, credit, banking relationships, and treasury reporting

    + Drive development and enhancement of financial systems, controls, policies, and procedures

    + Collaborate with auditors during annual audits and ensure compliance with all financial and regulatory standards

    + Stay informed on industry-specific products and services

    + Ensure data privacy and compliance with HIPAA, PII, ePHI, and other confidentiality standards

    + Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing finance team

    + Set departmental goals aligned with broader organizational objectives

    + Conduct regular performance evaluations and support professional development

    + Promote a culture of accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement

     

    Skills & Competencies

     

    + Strategic thinking and sound decision-making abilities

    + Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

    + Experience with ERP systems (Oracle NetSuite a plus)

    + Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing

    + Ability to lead through change and improve processes

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and adaptability to new technologies

    Requirements

    Preferred Background

     

    + CPA certification

    + Experience in healthcare strongly preferred (med device, health tech, health services, durable medical equipment, etc...)

    + Audit background, ideally from Big 4 public accounting firm
