*The University of Maryland, Baltimore Office of Community Engagement and UMB**Student Affairs*has an exciting opportunity for a*Civic and Community Engagement Specialist (Specialist, Community Program).* The Civic & Community Engagement Specialist will assist with advancing UMB as a national model for research universities collaborating with local communities to improve the human condition and serve the public good. This is a joint position between the Office of Community Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs. The individual in this position will develop and administer student programs and opportunities centered on civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism. The individual in this position will partner with academic and administrative units across the University as well as government, non-profit, and community-based organizations in Baltimore and other locations where UMB has a presence. Other close partnerships will be developed with staff in the Office of External Relations, the Office of Sustainability, and the West Baltimore community organizations. The Civic & Community Engagement Specialist will lead campus-wide efforts that contribute to developing UMB students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities to create engaged communities that address challenges together. All efforts will advance strategic themes outlined in the UMB Strategic Plan. This position will primarily report directly to, and be mentored by, the Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Involvement in the Student Success, Leadership, and Engagement unit within the Division of Student Affairs. The Specialist will be accountable to, and supported by, the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Community Partnerships in the Office of Community and Civic Engagement. *_Benefits Information _* UMB offers acomprehensive benefits packagethat prioritizes wellness, work/life balance, and professional development, along withadditional exciting perksthat employees can take advantage of. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.* *_Primary Duties_* * Develop program work and administer student programs and opportunities centered on civic and community engagement, service learning, and volunteerism. Oversee the planning and promotion of school-specific and University-wide days of service and community engagement opportunities. * Manage the UMB Votes initiative, including management of a website, coordination of events/activities, and cultivation of partnerships with non-partisan voter engagement organizations. * Assist in the recruitment plan and supervision of student employees and student volunteers. * Develop and implement necessary trainings and strategies to prepare students to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse individuals. * Manage and facilitate relationships and connections with students, faculty, staff, community partners and national associations focused on supporting the participation of students in civic engagement and service initiatives. * Advise student organizations in developing or seeking civic and community engagement experiences. * Lead the advancement of strategic civic and community engagement goals and priorities involving students. * Participate as a member of community engagement-related committees, boards, and working groups at UMB focused on UMB student community and civic engagement. * Assist in the development and management of comprehensive, university programming that advances the professional and personal development of students while building authentic, reciprocal, mutually beneficial relationships with communities and community organizations impacted by UMB’s activities in West Baltimore and beyond. * Coordinate recognition initiatives that highlight the contributions of students, faculty, staff, and community organizations in the areas of student civic and community engagement efforts. * Collect data; assess, and report on student learning and experiences in civic and community engagement opportunities. * Produce reports in compliance with UMB, the University System of Maryland, and other requests related to student’s participation and learning in civic and community engagement opportunities. * Manage the UMB volunteerism and engagement platforms focused on student initiatives but also inclusive of additional stakeholders (e.g., staff, faculty), which includes serving as the main point-of-contact, actively seeking volunteer opportunities from local communities, and promoting a wide range of engagement opportunities to UMB students. * Utilize various university platforms to track community involvement and engagement of UMB students and student organizations. * Develop and assist with the management of partnerships between student organizations and local K-12 schools. * Plan, promote, and manage University-wide events and programs that connect UMB students with volunteer and civic responsibility opportunities. * Perform other duties as assigned. *Education:*Bachelor's degree. Bachelor's or master's degree in social sciences, such as social work or psychology preferred. *Experience:*Two (2) years of community program coordination, development, oversight, or administration. Experience in higher education, community service and/or civic engagement preferred. *Other:*Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted. ** *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities* * Thorough knowledge of position requirements. * Thorough knowledge of all applicable requirements, policies, regulations, and laws. * Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. * Ability to effectively communicate thoughts, ideas, and facts. Demonstrate effective communication skills via presentations, quality reports, and other means of communication to diverse audiences and groups of all sizes. * Ability to demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values of Respect and Integrity, Well-being and Sustainability, Equity and Justice, and Innovation and Discovery. * Knowledge, awareness, and skills to foster community engagement environments preferred. * Knowledge and implementation of risk management, which consists of risk identification, risk assessment, and risk mitigation preferred. * Social media, marketing, and networking skills to maximize reach and impact of communications preferred. ** ** *Hiring Range:*$57,000 - $62,000, commensurate with education and experience.
