    Description

    + On behalf of Dr. Apostolos Tassiopoulos, Department Chair of Surgery at Stony Brook Medicine in Stony Brook,NY, CareerPhysician, LLC, the national thought leader in academic executive search, has initiated an international effort to identify a dynamic and transformational leader to appoint as the next **Chief of Plastic Surgery** . The new chief will be charged with creating a vision and strategy to drive the Division of Plastic Surgery and the clinical expansion to Eastern Long Island while fostering an environment that promotes innovative research and advancements in education.     The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery comprises of six board-certified clinical faculty, who are dedicated to the education of medical students and surgical residents in the art of plastic and reconstructive surgery; the performance of basic and translational research aimed at advancing both reconstructive and cosmetic procedures; and community service.

    Key Highlights:

    + The Chief will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Surgery and work in collaboration with the Chair on strategies, benchmarks, and metrics to drive excellent clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and advancements in benchmarks and/or clinical research.

    + The institution is committed to providing ample support, including a highly competitive package that includes funding, wet lab space, PhD support, etc. to appropriately resource leaders who have an interest in continuing as investigators and expect to carry over extramural funding for research endeavors.

    + In combination with the Division Chief appointment, the department is also open to considering a dual appointment as Vice Chair of Research for those leaders who qualify.

    + The Department of Surgery is comprised of ten Divisions consisting of over 60 specialized full-time faculty members, some of whom are national leaders in their fields. Stony Brook Surgical Associates offers inpatient and outpatient care in a wide breadth of surgical specialties serving Stony Brook and outreach sites across Long Island.

    + The Division of Plastic Surgery has ample opportunity for research collaborations with established connections to Brookhaven National Laboratory, the Stony Brook Cancer Center, and excellent graduate and undergraduate programs, offering unlimited opportunities for collegial interaction.

    + Stony Brook’s plastic surgeons have been recognized for their excellence by selection for inclusion in the present and past editions of the Castle Connolly Guides, America’s Top Doctors, representing the top 1% of physicians in the nation; and Top Doctors: New York Metro Area. In addition, the faculty has been selected for inclusion in the Guide to America's Top Plastic Surgeons (Consumers' Research Council of America).

    + Qualified applicants will have an M.D./D.O. Degree, retain American Board Certification in Plastic Surgery, be eligible for a New York state medical licensure, and hold an academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
