Description
The Lee County Community Development Department is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Plan Reviewer. The Plan Reviewer will be responsible for reviewing residential and/or commercial building plans for compliance with all applicable building codes and other applicable County ordinances. Additional responsibilities include reviewing plans for fire codes, life safety codes, flood ordinances, handicap codes, fair housing requirements, etc. Communicate with architects, engineers, designers, inspectors, contractors, owners, developers, occupants, etc. about code applications, interpretations, and/or violations.
Duties and Responsibilities
+ Code Compliance: Reviews plans for compliance with all applicable building codes and relevant County ordinances.
+ Requirement Research: Researches flood, coastal, environmental, zoning, historical, and other regulatory requirements related to applications.
+ Plan Revisions: Reviews revised plans to ensure they meet all applicable code requirements.
+ Customer Communication: Composes letters outlining code deficiencies and providing guidance for achieving compliance, while also responding to customers with code clarifications, permit procedures, and application status updates.
+ Recordkeeping: Prepares and maintains current records of building plan reviews within the County's electronic permitting management systems.
+ Stakeholder Coordination: Attends meetings as required and conducts preliminary plan review meetings with architects, engineers, developers, and property owners to offer technical code and County procedural guidance.
+ Application Reviews: Review new, repaired, and remodeled structures for compliance with applicable codes.
+ Additional Duties: May perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licensing
+ Education: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation or GED equivalent.
+ Experience: Four years of Builder, Architect, Engineer, Building Inspector, Superintendent of building construction, or closely related experience.
+ License: Possession of a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
+ Technical Skills: Proficiency in reviewing and understanding construction plans, Product Approvals, Florida Building Codes, county ordinances, and state statutes.
+ Certification: A Plans Examiner, as issued by the State of Florida through the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board, is required.
+ Preferred Requirement: Certification as an Inspector in the desired category is preferred.
+ Additional: Depending on the assignment may require additional certification.

+ Construction Knowledge: Possesses knowledge of modern construction practices, methods, and materials.
Plan Reading: Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans and specifications.
+ Communication Skills: Strong writing, editing, research, and public speaking abilities.
+ Analytical Skills: Possess strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
+ Relationship Building: Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with applicants, engineers, planners, developers, attorneys, contractors, and the general public.
The workdays and hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
