Job Title: Injection Molding SpecialistJob Description
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop complex mechanical designs for high-volume, injection-molded components and assemblies used in instrument systems. This role involves designs for high-throughput manufacturing levels, single-shot and multi-shot injection-molded designs, plastic consumables, and related test fixtures and processes.
Responsibilities
+ Lead the design and development of blank slate mechanical designs for systems.
+ Utilize SolidWorks 3D CAD program for 3D design and development of component and assembly designs.
+ Define goals and objectives for the development of new hardware and support existing instrumentation.
+ Perform various mechanical analyses including thermal analysis, stress analysis, and fluid flow analysis using tools like COMSOL or similar multi-physics tools.
+ Lead the mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of new injection-molded components.
+ Provide guidance in all phases of product development including feasibility, requirements, specification development, planning, design, verification, validation, transfer to manufacturing, and lifecycle support in conformance with ISO and FDA cGMP processes.
+ Oversee the development of written assembly and test procedures for new designs.
+ Support the design, development, and build of manufacturing test fixtures to support production efforts for plastic components.
Essential Skills
+ Experience with blank sheet design of complex mechanical/mechanisms driven systems.
+ Experience driving a product from design through to delivery.
+ Expertise in injection molding systems, single-shot and multi-shot injection molds.
+ Experience with high-volume injection-molded manufactured products.
+ Proficiency in SolidWorks or willingness to learn it if proficient in other 3D CAD packages (NX, CREO, AutoCAD, etc).
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; MS preferred.
+ 10-20 years of relevant experience.
+ Experience in the design and development of injection-molded components and assemblies manufactured at scale.
+ Experience in an ISO or cGMP environment.
+ Experience taking a product from design to market.
+ Proficiency in GD&T tolerancing practices.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with high-reliability products such as automotive, medical device, aerospace, DoD, or significantly sensitive instrument applications.
+ Experience with DFX (Design for X) with a focus on manufacturability.
+ Experience with systems manufactured at higher volumes.
+ Experience with fluidics, optical systems (optomechanical also), laser systems, microfluidics, etc.
+ Experience with multicavity, high-volume production.
+ Expert knowledge of injection molding processes, machines, and techniques.
+ Expert knowledge of tooling validation processes.
Work Environment
This position operates in an office environment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $200000.00/yr.
